Depends if you want to go mobile or not. The 706 mk2G is a good all rounder. Mobile or base. Can't really comment on the 847 as never had one. Have you thought about a Yaesu FT450d. Get an almost new probably cheaper than these two. And it has a built in ATU. Just my tuppence worth.

U won't regret staying with Yeasu. I had my 450d 2yrs. Now have 891 for mobile. I was on 40 today amidst Contests! I started with Yeasu in '70s with 101E then ZD then 707. Good luck 73's Mike.
