Not completely sure on this one Alan?!? More pictures would help.
Some sort of boxed setup obviously, field use or maybe even a repeater?
Perhaps the tube is being used as some sort of lightning arrestor but smaller, more efficient setups are available. Maybe it's a big-ass UV tube to kill any creepy crawlies that dare to venture in the box

Bottom right is MFJ Deluxe Versa Tuner ll. And the rest is cb/amp/psu but what is the setup for. The glass thingy intrigues me it looks like the operator could have been Frankenstein and just waiting for the storm.

like most people trying to guess what this is, ill have a go as well, if the rig has a speech counter, IE: it tells you what channel you are on, then i would guess it was made for a blind person(not making fun here), by having the rig/psu/amp/and a bulb built in to a unit, an early attempt i would guess for a later more better idea, this way having a mic socket on the out side with channel changer, the person using it wouldnt have to worry about how to turn on psu or the amp or rig, as it would be simple to just turn of the plug socket off in one go, it could also be a project of some person trying the electric field between a psu/amp/rig to see what impact it had on the rig in close proximity, to find the results for a college exam or A level's, or even some trying to find the storage space for how much room they would take up if the person was going camping/holiday, there are many idea's it could be,

Well i bought it for the tuner but would love to find out what it was. It's the glass tube and copper reflector that's got me baffled. When it turns up later this week i will put some better pictures up.

The glass thing has 2 yellow/green wires going to it then to some braid wound round to a certain point. Perhaps the burner kicks out that much power it lights the tube turning it into a heater and that is what the copper reflector is for . Could well be a shack heater/rig combo. Not had any contact from the seller yet so no idea when i will get it but cant wait to plug it in

Hee! My station master is much more forgiving now that she's realised I disappear to the radio whilst her 'cookie' TV programmes are on
You'll have to get some more photos of how that tube's hooked up Alan. The only other idea I could even summon was a TWiT or 'Travelling Wave Tube' amplifier but that would need a high tension source. Perhaps whoever built it had another vowel in that description.....
Hope your RSGB certificate turns up as quickly mate.

Well it turned up and it's a transmitter of sorts. Top bit with the glass tube is an antenna. Not sure on size but the (burner left rear) is quite large at around 1ft long. Big psu not sure until i take it all apart (top right). Tuner (reason i bought it) bottom right. And a uniden cb i think but the mic socket is connected to a 2 way switch one way is continuous transmit and the other is a press type let go and stops. Still none the wiser really but will strip it in a bit and see what size the burner is as it could be a heater or a sun lamp lol.

STRANGE or what. This was the cb that was in the box but when i transmit it comes up on my scanner as a channel they use on the boat's.(157.??? or 162.??? can't remember now and it's by the bin ready to go)... Well i guess we will never know what it was for.
