So sold the last of my amateur HF transceivers this week, got me a shiny new President McKinley courtesy of Doug Knight yesterday. Dug my must be 20 year old Imax 2000 out of the garage, popped on the Imax 2000 ground plane kit I also bought (cos it would be hypocritcal to bang on about all end fed verticals needing one and not doing it myself), shoved it on a 20ft pole my cobwebb used to sit on and off I went.
Had more fun in the last 3 hours than I've had for a very long time. So nice to have conversations with people. Had a good 15 minute conversation with a Belgian QRP station about antennas and making your own. Poor bloke sounded like he was just chuffed someone answered his CQ let alone was happy to have a chat with someone running 6W. Shame I have a S4/5 noise floor.

Hello Conor,
Pleased you are enjoying the cb band again. I have posted in your call-sign request too. Your original Charlie Tango call-sign is still valid. It is 26CT1760. Good luck with it.
I think it is the informal nature of cb that keeps radio operators from all backgrounds coming back to it.

I was actually surprised just how many are on locally. Ch19 is dead so I assumed there was little going on but get on SSB and there were several "locals" within about a 20 mile radius I had a chinwag with including one particular person with a Vortex Q82 I pass every day going to work who I didn't even expect to reach with him being on the wrong side of a hill.

There has been a definite resurgence in CB radio since the lockdown, Conor and it is good to see. I have never heard so many local operators using mid-block on all modes, not just for dxing, but for rag-chewing too. Long may it continue.

Yeah definitely seems to be the case that the more serious about CB have completely abandoned Ch19.

Channel 19 has been abandoned as a breaking/calling channel in London for the passed 20 years its normally full of people all swearing at each other or talking over each other wondering why they cant hear who's talking to them , TBH it doesn't matter to me because I hardly ever use UK27/81 FM but what pissing me off is that now the Ch19 idiots down here are now trying to turn 27:555usb in to SSB version of the UK19
