| I am not aware of anything similar to the Worked All Britain square-chasing that goes on in Amateur Radio. WAB activity is most popular on the 40/80m ham bands as inter-uk contacts are more reliable at those lower frequencies. The closest 11m gets is the annual Activate All Counties challenge where operators try to bag as many of the 48 "areas" being activated by Special Event stations over a 4-hour period. The challenge appears to be currently confined to English areas covered by the weekly Wednesday regional nets. Unfortunately you will have a long wait until the next one as it was held yesterday evening. | |

| I spoke to a chap in Finland last week who gave me his Locator ref, KP11NC. His village was Punkalaidun, which is not the longest of Finnish place names but easier in Locator! I was in IO90JO on the Isle of Wight. A lot of SSB DX ops know their locator ref because it's useful to use them to measure distance on a QSO but it's not that widespread. I wouldn't object if it did become more common. | |

| I would like a SOTA type system for 11m too. There's a lighthouse event for 11m which I'm going to activate my local one on the same day this year as the ham event. |

| Out of all the different "on the air" events and Ive lost count of all the different ones I have either particapated in or listend to the Jota with the scouts of the world gave me the most pleasure and some laughs with the remarks from them when they got on the mic for the first time, I am waiting for pubs on the air and Im there 2m 70cm 446 or DMR as the pub is close enough for my dongle lol | |
