Right. Hopefully someone can answer a question for me...
I’ve been looking on eBay for a decent desk mic
I found a Silver Eagle. In the listing it says it comes with an FM head and a SSB head. Note my question is, do You have to change heads for either FM or SSB. or Is it purely for aesthetic purposes?

First of mate there is no such thing as a FM head it's just a standard head that comes with the microphone it is suitable for AM /FM / SSB ,as for SSB head yes that was specifically designed for the use on SSB and yes you have to unscrew the heads to change them over ,I have use Astatic products for years and even sold them in the cb shop I worked in many years ago in fact we was one of the first Astatic dealers in the UK ,if the seller is selling the the SSB head in the deal buy it because they are quite rare now even rarer than the Eagle itself but the D104 which is the model name for the Eagle and all its other versions is perfectly ok on all modes so really you dont have keep swopping heads if you dont want to,these are excellent microphones I've got two .
Just for your info incase you didn't know the round head is the normal head which you can use in on any mode and the rocket/egg shape one is the special SSB head ,will tell you this will go for high money on the bidding be prepared mate the SSB head alone without the base has been known to sell for quite high prices
