homebrew wind up tower ?

Ive been thinking of putting together a crank up tower to take a couple of small beams and a vertical up to about 20 feet .

Liberated a winch and cable off an old Altron lattice mast years ago and its been sat under the workbench ever since. ( tried liberating the mast but wasnt allowed to haha)

Im thinking of 3M square box section base, which will take it to garage roof height for easy access ( garage is flat steel box section on griders so can be easily walked on) and the either a 4 m round section that will fit inside, or square smaller box section with nylon or similar spacers so there's room inside the bigger box section for the winch cable. This will depend upon the outcome of a visit to the local architectural salvage yard as they seem to have a wide selecion of stuff in stock.

I was just wondering if anyone has made anything similar, and if there's any advice out there, pitfalls to avoid, etc, or if there are any decent pland online to give me ideas. Also if anyone has homebrewed ones, how have you gone on with planning, as unlike a commercially procured one I won't have any technical data such as wind loading etc...
