We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Radiowise, you will need an ssb capable radio.
For the more modern radios, try an Anytone AT5555 or clones (MAAS/KPO DX5000, CRT SS6900) Cre 8900/Alinco 135. Anytone AT5555n/ CER SS7900 or Anytone AT6666/ CRT SS9900

Aerials . For cheapness, A coaxial dipole (T2LT) can be bought from flea-bay and tape it to a fibreglass fishingpole.
This is a pretty good set up and unlike end fed aerials, no lossy matching networks .
Here's a little vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwbT4ZX6514&t=3s

As for DX, at the moment we are well down on the 11 year sunspot cycle so the "Work the world on a wet noodle" conditions are gone for a few years.
However, come April, we will come into the summer "Sporadic E" season, so Europe (and a bit further afield) are very much workable.
This is NOT solar so will continue to happen.
There are still small openings occasionally atm but few and far between.

Power supply. I suggest 10-15 amps continuous rating

Great advice there from Tony.

Barrie, you didn't mention if you were looking for a home-base setup, or a car-based 'mobile' one ?
Just wondered :)
