9 ELE YAGI STACKED FOR PMR

HI all

I have been having a little dabble on my Antenna design programme and put together a 9 element yagi for the PMR band.
It looked pretty good for a half hour play.
I then created a stack and calculated a pair with a 1.2mtr spacing.
The figures looked very good.

I am just wondering what your thoughts are about a stacked pair, gain is over 12dbd , F/B is 30dbd, 29 0hms from the antenna which is easy to match back to 50 ohms. weight of each yagi will be about 2kg, length is 1.45 mtrs, easy enough to put up on a pole.
They will be easy enough to make,

Give me you thoughts please, is this a good idea, would it be a good DX tool.
Do you think I have lost the plot, gone mad due to the cold weather. or should I carry on with it and burst out of the winter period with a pair ready to go.

Oh yeah, I don't have a PMR radio and might need to find an operator to come and play if it goes ahead.

Cheers for now. Andy 591/P

You crack on sunshine........pmr dx is quite interesting, and a beam makes it much more reliable.

Andy great idea always hearing the guy's in france activating the pmr bands, and don't forget we had a few good pmr contacts (30/50 miles) from Buxton just on Trevs little yagi.

So my thoughts are fill your boots mate, myself and Trev will deffo be around for some testing before hand if needed.

Well, thats that then, he`s lost the plot, was only a matter of time though!
Cant wait to see how that performs, love taking a pmr up the hills when I go, never know who or where you will hear.
Is there a better pmr radio rather than a handheld? Base radio?
Fancy that, all that gear and lacking a radio lol
Andy, you never cease to amaze me :)

Sounds good, Andy. :thumb:

I had a 94 mile contact with Richard 26CT2506 in Aberystwyth a couple of months ago. We were both using handhelds and doing just 5w. Although admittedly we were both high up. I was around 515m asl.

Hi. Guys.

I've just started the PMR ball rolling with a Midland D200 Handy from Nevada. + a Yaesu FT3207 for Homebase
or Car. If the Handy is successful. i.e. to contact John123 @ Buxton from White Sheet or Brain's batch[mendips]
on 5w. if prop agreeable. then when I get the Yaesu fired up with 10/15ele Yagi's. maybe Europa! then. or in 4/5
yrs on the Cycle high maybe 2div?. 73s Mike 2201 [Yeovil] p.s. Al I'll pm you about 3207 capabilities if needed.

I have brought my knowledge over from putting together stacked 70cm's yagis for contesting.
I have used 2 and 4 stacked with plenty of contacts into Europe, Scotland and Ireland. 2 x 21, 2x17, 4x9.
I've made 9, 14, and 17 elements for the 70 cm's band. I am working on a pair of 9's as they are not too long, lightweight, slightly wider beam for receiving, if they are too tight at the front, you can easily miss incoming signals.
I found that 4 x 9 ele worked the best, they were set as Horizontal, but will use the pair as verticals for the PMR sessions.
They will be on top of the tower at around 15 to 20 mtrs come the Buxton bash, if it is light wind it will 20 to 25 mtrs. My goal is to put up a Station that the CT members can use and hopefully be heard into Europe.
This is a good time to start planning, get the final build done and test for any issues.

I will keep you all posted into the new year when testing starts. I will try and arrange a weekend with a couple of other guys when there is a Net on the go.

Cheers for now

Andy

Hi. Al.

Just seen your post. I've been out all evening filming an Xmas Fair for the local council. Father Xmas/ Majorettes/
Morris Dancers etc. I do a lot of videoing for local charities/ motor clubs/ & RC/Seagull. Back to radio the Yaesu
FT 3207DM wont be out till Jan/Feb. I'm waiting for confirmation that it can be widebanded to 450+. it will go to
470/480 on RX. All I need then is a TXmitter for 100k/cs to 1.8mhz then I can work all frequencies, maybe an old
Eddystone/Llafayette or ex WD. my Tecsun S2000 covers 100k to 140mhz with virtually no gaps on receive.

I'll keep you informed. 73s Mike.
