Hi all,

Looking to put some monitor speakers ( Behringer ms16 ) for the RX on my FTDX3000.
I would like control of the volume at the rig end, but don't really ,want to use the headphone socket.
Do i have to use a 6 pin breakout cable from the RTTY/PKT socket on the back, picking up the data out pin, make up a cable then go
via a mixer say Behringer 802 or is there an easier way??

Thanks in advance.

I should add, that the usual ext speaker output on the radio may not be suitable
to plug directly into a mixing console, as is the RCA rx out. Or so i have been told?.
If this is not the case then no worries, easy sorted.
Just thought i'd ask as to what others may have done.

HI Glynn,

Thanks for the info mate.
My question has been answered locally i think.
The RTTY/PKT does have audio out on a pin.
I am going along the route of using a mixer to improve the RX.
Even just plugged in via the headphone socket, with simple bass and treble adjusted the MS16 speakers have improved things considerably.
I could also use the RCA out as well, but something tells me i need a low level output like the ACC / RTTY socket to prevent hum and overdriving the mixer.
Still researching and will have to test it for myself, to see if that's right or not.
Take the unbalanced feed and turn it into a balanced one for an XLR connection to the mixer.
Seems you don't need to do that if you use a 1/4 jack though.
Watched a you tube by K7AGE Ham shack part 3 he seems to go via that route also, despite the fact an EXT speaker output is available?
He uses 4 inputs for 4 different radio's.
Well i'm not that lucky...This one will do me!

Every day is a school day, i'm still learning !!
As long as nothing goes bang eh!

i just use mine for rx, the behringer feedback thingy has all these setting you can change and you can notice the difference in the audio. like i say my ms16 speakers with the 1/4 in jack on into the beringer , and another 1/4 in jack on a short cable that goes into my radio speaker jack

think this is like mine but thats the 1100 mine is the dsp 1124p
