In nearly thirty years of being licenced I've never been qrv on 6. Toying with the idea of knocking up a Moxon for the band. I have the space on the mast (Tenna Mast), got a rotator been laying in the shed for twenty years unused, got plenty bits of alli tube lying around, have the facility on the TS2000 so why not? Question is, is there a band plan for six, could anyone enlighten me. Is there an ssb section , fm section, calling frqs for a particular mode etc, any pointers would be welcome |

Hi Miko, I spent 95% of my first licensed years on 6 as HF was not available to "B" licencees at the time as you will remember. With fairly simple kit and an HB9CV I worked all continents, all EU and most states at the peak of several cycles. Did well in some contests too. Summer Sp. E always brings continental and multiple hop DX, sometimes linking into TEP for further DX. I worked all EU and some states whilst driving around for work. Small antennas and 20-50W were enough then, though the pile-ups are bigger these days.... At this minima Sp.E will be the business in the summer, but be prepared to listen to "frying eggs" for hours too, you have to put the time in and watch the clusters. I strongly recommend the UKSMG ( UK Six Metre Group) website for info, even if you don't join it's a mine of data and experience. UKSMG Enjoy the Magic Band, I did! |
