Hi, Just recently got back into radio after 35 years or so and recently brought UV-5R for scanning the local simplex channels here in Stevenage. Surprisingly both 2m and 70cm are fairly active around here, I even got a contact on PMR ch8 after switching on for the first time. Probably be the last one! Not hugely knowledgeable about radio stuff but I may be able to help with Linux issues especially Debian based systems. Jason |

Hello and welcome, Jason. Glad to find you have got activity in your area. Ch8 on PMR is often used by radio enthusiasts for networks, so it is always worth monitoring. There is a Southern-based net on PMR on Sundays between 12 and 2pm, so if you can get on high-ground you may make some contacts. There are plenty of well attended and organised nets on Mid-Block and the UK40 on CB/11m. So a good multimode radio would be another worthwhile purchase. 73s John. |

Thanks John, I have a 27/81 York 861, not that there is any activity here, even ch19 is dead. You have to head out of town to get any sort of decent reception there is a lot interference. There's a nice hill with a water tower up the A1 by Langdon before Biggleswade where its possible to receive pretty well. Cant see me investing in any more 11m kit to be honest I have no where to put an antenna! I'll give the Southern PMR net a go though, thanks. |

No worries, Jason. If you have the York, try Sid's Sunday Net on Ch34 between 2 and 4pm on a Sunday. |
