hi, I'm kinda new to cbing and had a midland alan 97 plus with a mini stinger type antenna and mag mount on my car and a 1/2 silver rod on my roof got both tuned in no problem and worked spot on for a while , but ive just recently bought the CRT 6900N had it connected to the silver rod and the swr was still spot on but when I tried in the car the swr was off the scale tried tuning it but still no joy even though I can still get it tund fine on my alan, so I'm guessing the antenna itself and the coax etc are still in good condition as its still fairly new ?? I'm kinda in the dark as what to do next any help wout be magic cheers I would also like to request a CT callsign , I'm in Ayrshire Scotland so would that be 108CT thanks again. |

Hi Bobby, Welcome to CT DX group. If the SWR was way off on just one antenna, with the new radio, I would be inclined to say the built-in swr 'meters' on modern radio's are rubbish, and it is always best to check swr on a 'proper' meter. But, as it's fine on the silver rod, and only way off on the stinger, maybe the coax feeding the stinger is damaged, or the plug, or the antenna itself (if you can check it with a proper meter too, that will make sure of the reading). It could be a patch lead that is at fault if you are using one. Oh, and I have issued you the call-sign : 108CT163, good luck, Nik |

Hello and welcome, Bobby. When testing the swr on the 6900, were you on the same frequency as the Alan, when using the stinger? The only reason I ask, is the frequency coverage of the 6900 is much greater than the Alan and the stinger will probably not be resonant at the bottom and top of the 6900's frequency-range, meaning the swr all be much higher. You may not have had a problem with the Silver Rod as it is much wider banded antenna. 73s John. |
