Dear Sirs,
I have been interested in radio since the late 1970's, back in the day when my friends and I used to hide in the garden shed with an old 40 channel AM radio powered by a car battery, attached to which was a dodgy length of coax and a DV27 secured to the shed roof, underneath which was a back plate lifted from an old washing machine to serve as a ground plane. The number of other breakers we made contact with was quite astonishing. Then of course, when CB became legal on FM in 1981, I thought all of my Christmas's had come in one go, everybody bought one of these radio's, the channels were packed,, endless amounts of fun was had and many new friends made, it was great. Then after three years or so, the numbers dwindled and there was almost nobody left, the channels were empty, so the CB was placed on a shelf in the garage and that's where it stayed until April last year when I took it out of hibernation. The radio in question is a ROTEL RVC 230, an excellent piece of kit that still works as good as the day it was new. After dusting it off and plugging it in, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the 19 was quite busy, so to cut a long story short, I have taken up this fantastic hobby once again after a thirty two year break and have made many contacts and new friends. In the past few months I have up-graded to a very nice 10/11 metre radio to which I've attached a good quality dedicated 11m high gain antenna, this will all be substantially up-graded once more when I have obtained my Amatuer radio license.

Kind Regards,

Simon. (Si "The Pipe").. (email: gowers.simon@gmail.com)

Hi Simon,
Welcome to CT DX group.
Thank you for the great intro, many of us had a break from CB and returned later, myself included.
Unfortunately the solar cycle is nearing its low point, but Amateur radio is worth getting into, as you may find 'some' propagation on other bands, when 11m is dead.
