Hi all, My name is Richard and I come from Telford, in Shropshire. I have had CB's before in my early twenties when I used it for communicating with my mates on and around the Hills on the Welsh Borders where I used to live. I have dug out my old CB (Midland 77-095) from the attic and put it in my van as I spend 2 or more hours a day driving. I've talked to lots of people o we the airways and will upgrade to SSB radio and start DXing. I'm self-employed as a skill Carpenter and plumber, and restore old houses. My kids are all 18+ now and this seems to be a great way to meet and talk to people outside my work and family, as generally I'm always working. So I need to renew my CV hobby and start DXing. Also in need of some helpful advice on the best way to body mount an twig, as I seem to be doing it wrong and getting high SWR and have to use a magmount. My current setup a Midland 77-095 which I've owned from new as well as a springer on a magmount. I also have a small helper so I can get longer DX's. I'm also got a CRE 8900 to be fitted after Christmas ( my wife helpfully put it up as my Christmas present when she saw it arrive in the post :-( oh well could of been worse) I will also be going to join the local radio club. Nice to meet you all, Richard. |

Hi Richard and welcome to the forum, not as many on the radios as back in the day but quite a few on ssb especially on Wednesdays when there are a few mid week nets. A bit of advice would be to swap the stinger for a Sirio 4000 or modulator antenna.

Thanks, Sorry a silly question, but what's a modulated antenna. If it helps the van is a fiat ducatto high top lwb van. The only reason I went with a stinger is it bends over when I hit low branches. So my next question is will the 4000 bend or break. Thanks Richarx |

A Sirio antenna will be to long for the van but the modulator should be ok and are flexible http://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/260620638572 |
