It would appear to be a decent radio but at $299 (Which is £237) it's certainly not cheap.

If it had FM and was Multi-Norm (For the EU market) it might be worth that as it would be in line with the President Grant 2 pricing.

Talking of which.....

Found this image online showing a President McKinley EU ...

It's probably a mock-up but with some small changes the radio could be developed for UK/EU use.

All that is required is the addition of FM Mode and the ability to switch between the EU CB Radio standards (Multi-Norm). Weather channels would need to be removed of course as they do not function outside the USA.

So what do you think?

Would you like to see an EU version of the President McKinley???

Would be nice TBH Del to see one but all depends what radio its really based on, cos as we all know now days most are the same radios with a different name on them ;) ;) , plus most probably it would be at a silly price cos the UK /Euro stuff has been added . I must admit I do like the 12/24 volt thing on it at least you can use it the car and the lorry

Thanks for posting Del,
Always nice to read about new happenings. Personally I'm not a fan of it's styling, it looks like some old taxi radio from the 1970's. Maybe some will love it who knows.
It's lack of buttons/knobs obviously means everything is hidden in a menu, another pet hate of mine. So, unless it is an absolutely amazing performer, I'm oot

Id like to see at least one of the manufacturers deliver a low power, compact AM/FM/SSB multi norm that was able to be opened up a bit.
Maybe its just me but I feel like there is a lot of operators out there looking for a compact, low power consumption, flexible radio that is fit for the likes of mobile and hill topping activities. Could this McKinley be the "one" everyone is waiting for?

If only we could get a CRT One with SSB and a few wires available to snip :D .... I live in hope.

I will wait and see what the fiddlers manage to do with this McKinley then decide I reckon.

Thanks for the vid link delboy

Thanks for the comment Tim, but i would not entertain this hand held, but I will save that for a different thread.

Neither am I after a HF radio a like the 817. Just a small compact radio like a CRT One that does SSB and can be opened to cover other parts of the band. I would even be happy with 4watts on SSB.

Anyway I do not wish to hijack the thread. Time will tell on the McKinley.

Regards

Prob for more South America than USA becuse in the USA all trucks are 12v not 24v like euro stuff but it dose give the idea it be good for EU/UK market
I like it front mounted speaker and din mount would be good for fitting into trucks or a car with a spear din slot !

What I'am try to say Dave is all trucks in the USA are 12v not 24v so if it's a set for the USA I don't see the need for the dual voltage system !

That's interesting!

Yes why make a 12/24v radio for a market which only has 12v trucks?

But as been said they are for the U.S market only and we are not alegerly going to be getting them in UK/EU and as Sam has mentioned U.S. lorry's are all 12 volt so it wouldn't be much point in using one for the amp mentioned as they don't use them in the U.S and we are not alegerly getting the radio , and also who at President came up with the idea for duel voltage for the U.S only market , not very good market research.
