Ext. Speakers and DSP speakers

I am trying to improve the final audio output from my Homebase setup (Alinco 135 ssb etc and Cobra for UKFM), I have invested in a good DSP speaker but concerned that when I Tx the Rf energy is going to go into the speaker (Possibly via the audio wire) and damage the internal circuitry.

Do I have good reason to be concerned? Is it just a case of getting a shielded audio lead (with 3.5mm jack plugs if one exists?) or do I just wrap the lead around a ferrite ring?

Any advice greatly received.

Provisional Rx tests with the DSP speaker shows a good improvement over reception of weaker signals with background hash and white noise. One known breaker on a local net who comes over with equal amounts of background noise is now audibly clear using the dsp speaker. Background noise almost gone completely.

Pound for pound it was not cheap (Though got a good deal via a radio rally) BUT listenability has vastly improved and totally changes the users listening experience on the short wave bands.

Cheers Steve

Firstly you shouldn't have any stray fr in your shack if you have your antenna tuned correctly with low swr and all grounding is done correctly but if you did have any and it entered the speaker via the audio lead the you would know because you would hear feedback or even your transmitted audio coming over your speaker, I also run a bhi dsp desktop speaker and have had no issues with fr getting in to it , tbh it's doubtful that it would enter it even if there was some floating around the shack because I suspect your speaker is pretty near the rig and as such the audio lead will be very short and as you are transmitting an 11 metre wavelength it's unlikely that it would find its way into a 60 cm long cable which is all mine is, but as you suggested for peace of mind get a clip on ferrite and clip it on as close to the speaker as it can go and job done. Brilliant little speakers too.

Cheers guys and thank you turbo, Yes initial use of the speaker with a radio ( on Rx) it does what it says on the tin, it is not as cheap as an external speaker but like I said before it does what its designed for and does pull out those weaker signals from any background noise. Plus its nice to listen to 11m without that high level of white noise in the background, yes I know you can turn the squelch up but then you lose those interesting weaker signals.

If one is in your budget then I would say have a look at the BHI ones (other are out there) I was sceptical at first and waited till I could try one in the flesh, also if you go one step further (Like the demo one I tried) connect a set of proper communication headphones, like Kenwood ones, they work only in the audio range you need for communication radio. Together they work even better, your ears are treated to a wonderful fidelity. Its only then when you press the filter switch and turn off the dsp you realise how improved the audio is.

I reckon the dsp gives the equivalent of at least a 2db improvement in signal to noise with much improved clarity.
