Hi Guys,
thinking of doing the foundation course, in october, can anyone tell me the pro's and cons of doing this against just staying a CB'er, do you guys still use CB or is that frowned on once you have your licence ?
thoughts on this please
regards
Paul

Hi Paul I did my foundation earlier this year and never intended to give up CB. I still try and get on the local Nets when I'm static mobile. I love DXing on 11m and can't see why I would give it up.

Currently, I don't have much in the way of Ham gear though to be honest

Hi Paul , 5 months for me on the bands , love it but still use and enjoy 11m . Heard a few M6 getting ripped into for using cb slang on the bands but thats their fault. There are no cons imho for doing the foundation particulary if your interested in DX , using a genuine 10w pep and basic antennas Ive worked 66 DXCC on 5 different Continents so far. If you want to carry on using CB thats you business and as long as you behave correctly on the bands its no one elses concern. ( well maybe Ofcom if your on the T5 lol )

Go ahead for the foundation, all the more strings to your bow.
Is CB frowned upon by the amateur community ? That may have been the case a few years ago but as the years go by more and more amateurs came into the hobby by way of CB so this attitude problem is gradually disappearing, and the sooner the better. Many many amateurs retain and are active on CB. Nearly 30 years I've held a full amateur licence but it doesn't stop me from using CB when I feel the need for a change, just a pity there isn't more activity in my area.

Go for it Paul, not sure if you're 11m DXer, or just chat local on the UK 40, but pretty soon 11m is going to be dead for weeks on end DX wise when the sunspot minimum takes effect, so having the rest of HF to play with makes sense if you're into radio. The foundation isn't at all hard, and you'll be amazed at where you can get to with 10w and a decent antenna.....73.
They say hard work never killed anyone..........but why take the chance?

Like everyone has said, nothing to lose and more bands to play on
I was a bit nervous about an exam after all these years from school but neednt have been, met some great guys and had fun over the 2 days, was an easy pass
Only down side is having to spend on a new radio (then another, and another) :)
