What I'm going to say might be a bit controversial and pi55 a lot of people off but I think that all these radio forums have also killed off the art of having a conversation on CB because they spend most of there time now on the forums (yes me included before I get told) , I would sooner talk on the radio though, also there seems to be a lot of the 6000 members that a Sam mentioned and I have noticed too don't even seem to have radios cos you always seem to see them say when new members join they say "Been around radio for years but haven't got a radio yet but can I have a call sign " then in there next post ask "What's a good radio to start with" also there is a lots of member's that I seen in the listing that have never made any contribution to the forum that seem to have been member for along time but only come on the forum if there is chance of winning something in any compotions the forum has OK controversial rant over, let's get people back on the radio and not just DXing on SSB you can use AM/FM for a local chat |

Certainly seems the South East is abit of a dead Zone compared with the rest of the Country , as from the logs and videos posted up of the Nets and Individuals the rest of the Country was having a blast either on UKFM or SSB on the mid block. Kevin ps Martin fm/am are used for local chat from one end of the Country to the other and can be quite busy at times. Edited by Bean, Sunday, 6. November 2016, 11:29.

I genuinely believe that the hobby (for most not all) will become a mobile not home based one. Why? Loads of QRM at home. Fewer stations about so you need to get high up somewhere. It's no coincidence that those who take part in regular CB nets are mostly on high ground. So the choice for most of us is.... Stay at home and pack it in or get portable and up a hill. I know there are a few who live QRM free.... If they hear nothing then get portable too. I sound like Norman Tebbit don't I lol. Tim |

Well it's a bit hard for us on CB where I live to get on high ground to get away from QRM unless we can get on the roofs of the local tower blocks lol , but joking apart I've been on CB since 1975/76(and I was home based as well as mobile) and we didn't have all the QRM and other interference we have now, TBH it seems that it's been say the last 5 or so it's got worse , the only ones in London that are sort of lucky are the ones who live in the highest parts of London or live in the tower blocks

Joking apart (and I'm presuming you are willing/able to go to high ground static mobile) how far away from you is the nearest hill? Within a 30 min drive? Edited by TimH1971, Sunday, 6. November 2016, 15:34.

Nowhere TBH Tim, well not this time of year really , we have a place called high beach which is about a 25 /30 min drive , but it's only suitable for summer time cos it's a forest area and not really nice in winter time and especially at night ,we have a place called Alexander Palace which is one of the highest if not the highest place in North London but there funny about people parking up there to use radio plus this time of year they have lots of events up there so they limit the parking other than that there ain't a lot really , we just have to wait till summer and do a road trip out of London |

Not many incl me would want to sit out in the cold burning fuel to keep warm this time of the year,if the only way to make use of CB again was to go out mobile you can count me out... Its a real shame as this hobby was important to me but i will keep plugging away when possible to put some rf up my antenna and into the airwaves now and then even if i have to go down on the mids and talk to myself via a parrot (repeater)

I get out quite well from where I live on FM - up to Hertfrod some London South East and Sussex etc. Trouble is you never know where the best freq is to find anyone. Take the CT Chan 34 - I call out there but there is never anyone i can hear using it. Now with Chan 19 it is pretyy busy down my way - the tropuble is - unless you talk on 19 you unlikely to get a copy - as it seems everyone is reluctant to move off to another channel So you either stay there or have no conversation Is the reason - in the old days we had channel 19 or 14 as a calling channel - nowadays there seems to be too many calling channels - diff chans on the mids, diff freqs on usb lsb etc - I get bored searching all these frqs to find another station. Like this Big Net thing - there is at least 3 different calling frqs AFAIK If you divide the number of people using CB at night by the number of calling places - there is probably not enough people to go round - at anyone time Rather than use 19 or 555 etc - it might wok better for example - if all CT members ignored the other freqs and just used 34 and see how that works out for a while - Everyone moans about 19 but still goes there. 555 is ok if you want dx I think a lot of the issue is - nobody knows where to find anyone. We need to organise and - as we are a CT Group - use a dedicated call channel for all members - Ignore 19 and all the other obcscure freqs - just use one call channel for CT group We might actually get some contact with each other then. We need to re-invent the wheel.......kinda thing...... Edited by Jape, Sunday, 6. November 2016, 19:03.

Great idea about the calling channel for CT. High up on UK40 is better to take advantage of the lessening plt noise above ch35. Ch34 would be OK down this way although there is the Sunday DX net on that channel. Only channel used every day is by some lads on ch38 on Isle of Wight and Hampshire Dorset every evening. |

We in our area of North London used to use 34 UKFM (about 4year ago)as our local chitchat /net channel all of us CT members and it was alegerly the CT calling channel, we use to get loads coming in on the side from all over and I mean allover as conditions was great back then even Roy in Corsica was regular with us , the reason we stop using it was conditions got cr@p and the QRM got so bad sometimes I couldn't even hear my mate 2 mile up the road

Ch34 would be OK down this way although there is the Sunday DX net on that channel. Only channel used every day is by some lads on ch38 on Isle of Wight and Hampshire Dorset every evening.[/quote] I mentione dChan 34 because I assume it is already supposed to be the CT calling Chan as listed on the Forum index: PINNED: Channel 34 - CT Net and Calling Channel As mentioned - I've never heard anyone from here on it and I do try calling on it I know the issue with QRM but apart from that it is mostly clearof users - unlike 34 mids which can get EU breakers depending on skip etc ] Another Channel would be fine with me tho' I prefer usb really - that seems to have gone out of fashion for domestique chat -dunno why - although that can get QRM wiped I'll continue to monitor 34 for now. Would be good if all CT members could try calling out on 34 a few times each day to see if we can bump into each other.....It doesn't take long to give a few shouts. Edited by Jape, Sunday, 6. Actually 34UKFM is already the official CT calling channe, has been for a long time we'll since I've been a member (2010) anyway but as I said in one of my post on this thread the only CT members that used it regularly was us local one and we stop using cos of the conditions getting bad and QRM. also work commitments @Tim I've got a spare A99 but still nowhere to go to on high ground plus too cold mate this time of year to looking for it lol Edited by Nubster, Monday, 7.
