Hey CT, I was wondering what frequencies we in the UK are allowed to use. I know we have the UK 40 FM but can we only use AM and SSB on the CEPT frequencies? |

Yep. Mid block was first legal via FM, although theirs events to celebrate ukfm and cept am/ssb becoming legal FM on cept always gets overlooked unless date is the same as one of the others. Kevin |

The European band is labeled EU which technically means European Union. Are we still allowed to use it? And on the Midland Alan 42 Why is there an EU band and an EC band? |

The EC band is FM only on 26.965-27.405 MHz, max 4 W. I.e. The CEPT frequencies. The EU band is also the CEPT frequencies, FM max 4 W, but AM only 1 W. these were older rules, since superseded. Suggested setting to use for CEPT is the 'E', 'F' or 'I' bands. Originally supposed to mean Spanish, French and Italian settings, it corresponds to the current standards in most of the EU, i.e. the CEPT frequencies at max 4 W FM and AM. The 'I' setting, originally meant for Italy, is the same (CEPT 4 W FM and AM). If you use the quick switch from the UK band to the EC band (pressing and holding "LCR"/"A/F") and then power cycle the radio, on some revisions, it will change from EC to I. All modes on CEPT up to 4W eirp are legal in the UK (for now at least). But the radio has a few frequencies beyond that, so to be legal, I would recommend avoiding the settings: d, d2, I2, PL, PX, SW as they have some or all frequencies falling outside the legal range. (Fun fact: the SW setting is as high as 31 MHz for a Swedish band the radio doesn't even seem to be able to transmit on without retuning). Does this clear things up somewhat? 73 [imgw=720]http://b1.ifrm.com/2510/101/0/p5000026/Midland_Alan_42_Multi_2012.jpg[/imgw] Edited by Gandoon, Thursday, 15. September 2016, 10:37.
