Just an idea I came up with, it may have been done before, I don't know, but discussed it with some of the other staff and it seems like something to try ![]() With the drop in propagation, I have been thinking of ways to do something different for groundwave contacts. The idea is : to 'send' a message of some sort, from the most southern part of the UK (if possible), and transfer it by QSO from one member to another, until it reaches the most northern part of Scotland (obviously via Wales on the way). To make this happen, I think we need ..... 1) One CT member as far south (Cornwall) as possible, to start the ball rolling, and who can be on the radio next Saturday (17th) reasonably early (9am/10am). 2) Enough CT members on so that the message can be passed (lets say an average of) around 20 miles or so between contacts (although the more the merrier), in order for the message to be transferred. 3) Somebody in Scotland as far north as possible, to receive the final 'pass' and confirm the message. It would be amazing if we could get at least one member from every County as a part of the chain, but realistically, it might be a big ask ! So, What do you (the members) think ? Frequency is not decided yet, it could be on UKFM, or freeband SSB, midband, who knows, whatever you think is best ... Would also be good to get some CTX involved

I looked at something similar, and im no expert but i recon you could so lands end from john o groats in 13 hops conservatively. We would need more ops for each county but it would be more fun. I would be up for something mad like this. |

To include everyone some sort of rolo code using CT call signs ,so the different path the message takes could be traced back. You would still need someone right down in Cornwall to send message out and someone at the other end waiting for message which might come in under a half hour or never. Kevin |

I'll spread the word, although Saturday morning wouldn't leave much time for CTX members to get to decent locations, but you never know. I work most weekends, so unfortunately I'll not be able to join in unless the job falls through. Good luck! - we did try linking the UK up years back, but from memory, there was a void around the Midlands. Hopefully with a lot more members now, there will be more chance of success ![]() |

Would love to get this rolling in the morning, but as yet, am still waiting for somebody to volunteer to set the ball rolling. Preferably somebody from Cornwall, but if not, Kent I guess ? I think setting an exact frequency might be tricky especially if it's in use, so lets just say 'around' the T5 area. If whoever has the code, calls for CT members "26CTxxx/PC looking for CT members (PC = Pass Code) (or 163/108 obviously when it reaches you). Then just pass over the code and hopefully they can continue it on it's journey. Nik Edited by Nik Gnashers, Friday, 16. September 2016, 15:44.
