Same here, rang them earlier and they're aware of the problem, should be fixed next week. Also, from now , no need to re-validate every five years. 73 |

When the system is fixed, we'll need to re-register, as if starting from new, we'll then be sent an e-mail with a link to set up passwords etc. I did it yesterday, and the link doesn't work, that's what is being fixed. Also, it took me a while to find their mail, it had gone into my spam bin! But the licence is deffo now for life, no need to revalidate every 5 years. |

I finally managed to get my callsign registered on Friday, but even although I am in Scotland my callsign was showing up on the licensing page as an M6 instead of an MM6...after 2 calls to make sure I had registered properly it seems all new callsigns from now on will be registered this way whether you are in England/Scotland/Wales or Northern Ireland......and when my licence arrived by email it doesn't have MM6 on it either but is M#6 with the option to replace the hashtag with the appropriate suffix. Both the chap and lady I spoke to both told me that the extra letter for which country I am in is no longer going to be needed but can use it if I wish to do so which if I am honest shocked me a bit, that was the reason I phoned twice as I thought the first chap had either misquoted me the correct way or I picked it up wrong...but the second call to the lady this time was exactly the same with the same info, I even repeated back to her a few times so I will not be in breach of my licence rules by only quoting my callsign as an M6 even though I am in Scotland and was told no, she even asked what was my reason for not understanding what I was being told...I said that it will cause confusion if I introduce myself as an M6 as when asked where in England I am and I say I am not but based in Scotland well this is only going to get me many comments of you are using the wrong callsign, and I am not going to spend 20 minutes explaining to every person who does ask why ofcom said we can do it from now on.She told me the only letters they bother about are the last 3 as this will show who and where I am to them at ofcom. Either way with what they say I will be using my MM6 unless I visit some where else in the UK outside of Scotland. |

Hi folks I was just reading the RSGB Newsletter and it says to the effect. There is still a need to revalidate your callsign every 5 years. At present however there is no clear way of doing it on the website. This is being addressed as a matter of urgency. |

You're right Paddy, twice Ofcom told me there was no longer a need to revalidate every 5 years, but it turns out they didn't know what they were talking about, and there is still a need to do it. They now need to fettle the web page to allow us to do it! Sorry for any confusion I caused

What a bizarre situation Andy, the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing? You take things you are told by official bodies on good faith and they change it / deny they said it. |

As a community (hams) some dont even have a pc ! or visit a radio club, so how are they to know when Ofcom decide to fanny about with things that didn't need fixing in the first place, !! a good old letter in the post will do, some of our older hams dont do computers etc, are they going to be left out in the cold ?, at 75 yrs old you get an automated letter giving you your tv licence for free, they have your details so make it a bit easier Ofcom for the older generation. |

Good point Ron, how do you validate every 5 years without Internet access? Do you have to write in saying I want to retain my callsign? |

I did mention the need to validate every 5 years to someone on 11m the other Sunday morning as I know him to be an old school ticket holder , whoosh ! right over the top of his head and not in the slightest bit interested. LOL Kevin |
