well im totally amazed i know everyone will have an opinion so lets hear it , im lucky err i think ! lots of ops on the cb near me . . . but why do the majority act like total idiots , most on 19 uk are on hf radio's its cool to swear and talk crap like u wanna be a gangster even tho your over 50 ! i know when i joined my local dx group many years ago there was a code of conduct unwritten of course but every one was civilised now this is not just a uk thing . i swl on t5 and oh dear im not going to mention any single division or operator but music animal noises are just a few things i hear , i dont get surprised when people give up radio now , not that i would ,i just move on and leave em to it but what for me is a great hobby is now getting to where i just call dx now and then and sit by my radio and swl and think WHY !!!!

It's always been like this ![]() I think it stands out more nowadays, because there are less operators on generally. But back in the early 80's after the legalisation boom was starting to slow down, there were plenty of music players, mike keyers, and animal noises

Yes mate i was having a listen on ch19 ukfm yesterday and there was the usual crew swearing and talking about 1kw amps. "You need to get a 1kw burner and then you will be able to whoosh over everyone in se england" was the best statement.. Can be entertaining if you need a good laugh

Mind you doesn't matter a damn about the size of their burner if someone stuck a drawing pin in their coax

I have often wondered why I came back into this obsessive hobby but I think with me i enjoy having my very own radio station. It can be very clickey and volatile at times but in between all the mess there are other enthusiasts out there to talk to and different elements of the hobby to pursue. The swearing, mike keying, playing music and abuse has alway's been there in some shape and form. As the saying goes; You can't choose your family but you can choose your radio op ![]() I dont get it with dirty burners, every one around me are on at least 100w and one fruitcake (bless him) cranks upto 400w and they all end up arguing with each other on 19 because it ends up in mush On nights like this I either turn the radio off or have a jaunt on sideband or AM as there is more than one channel.Regards |

We have some seriously foul mouthed scumbags on Ch 19 most days in this area Sedgefield / Spennymoor / Ferryhill / Wingate area yet they appear to be intelligent middle aged guys but they cannot stop saying F and C in every sentence !!! Dunno why some folks just have no class. |

Have to totally agree.I can remember when it was first legalised and every idiot for miles around was swearing, playing music etc.We now only have a select (!) few around here who think its acceptable to swear and dead key over a conversation, thank god,but it still spoils it for the rest.As for stupid linears, thankfully, most are in use on sideband.I only run a 60 watter when D.X'ing which is more than enough. Why would you want,or even need,1kw on F.M!Really????

Because they cannot talk to their mate in the next street. Also it is cheaper to buy a kilowatt fish fryer than reach up and turn the channel selector |

Found this subject interesting and enjoyed reading through the comments from the other members...it's a subject that I've been giving a lot of thought to for quite a while, I'm one of the 'Old School' pre CB27/81 Pirates...Noise Ups as they were called all through my 20 years of consistently working radios were just a bit of fun that was accepted by everybody on the radio back then (of course most users were using legal power or a maximum of 12 watts from the likes of their Cobra 148's etc) nowadays the 'Gangsters' on the radio are using amateur kit that shoves 100w through their antenna...The 'Gangsters' in my hometown aren't just a bunch of 'clowns' acting big because they can hid behind a bit of plastic...these guys (some with previous for firearms offences) will track down anyone that upsets them (they don't discriminate between when they are 'stoned' or straight) and if you happen to be a minor the have been known to approach the parents and explain that their kid might be visiting the local intensive care ward if they don't alter their behaviour...I listen most on my radio nowadays and can't understand why 'Ofcom' and the authorities don't tackle the problem straight on...I was 'Busted' for using the likes of Cobras and Lincolns in my day...so what's the difficulty with approaching the new generation of Pirates that cause trouble, flaunt all law and ruin the hobby for the people that really enjoy it. |
