Hello guys and girls. I've been away from CB for 21 years and I would Like to return to airwaves once again. I have an Antron 99 thats has been on the side of my house for 21 yrs Do you think it would be still good to use after all these years It's still standing straight it has a bit of mildew on it. What do you think. Jake Edited by Jake Highgate, Wednesday, 22. June 2016, 03:03.

Hi Dave that's what I was thinking too. Was to replace the coax. Can you recommend a good coax cable. Are these coax cables Any good for CB use ( mini 8 ) ( RG 213bx ) ? For about a 25m run. |

I always use RG213 (thick stuff) TBH ,the BX bit I have know idea what that denotes but alot of 213 has a letter code after it anyway I still have A99 stored in my garage as a spare antenna but I use to get the same as Dave with the noise when I used it ( we are only 2 mile from each other) so I got a Gainmaster too and all is OK TBH now Edited by Nubster, Wednesday, 22. If water ain't dripping from the coax try it but I bet the antenna will be full of spiders n bugs of all types lol Best thing put a radio on it with a swr meter and see if it's ok ! If you replace the coax I'd use RG8 less hassle than 213 ! Let us know how you get on with it be interesting to know |

Hello Jake, I have an A99 that I use as my back up antenna, its been up for approx 4 years and has had everything thrown at it, from gale force winds to the effects of strong UV rays and it still works a treat... they certainly are an antenna that can be put up and forgotten about. One thing that does happen to an older A99 is that the fibreglass can start to "flake" and I've seen that some people spray their A99 to help prevent this problem. It might be well worthwhile taking the antenna down and giving it a clean, but Watch out for those fibreglass "flakes".. they can be painful on the hands. And I also agree with the other postings that recommended that you check out your coax etc. |

Hello Jake, Just be careful as to the quality of the coax that you buy via EBay etc. A couple of years ago I bought some light coax to use with my A99... when it arrived and I had a look at the quality of the braid I knew immediately that I had bought a load of RUBBISH.... the quality of the braid was a joke. So my advice is to check with someone who has actually bought some coax online, and most importantly were satisfied with its quality... its probably a good example of " you only get what you pay for " Good luck Jake |
