Well its taken a little longer than I had hoped but last night went active again on the CB airways for the first time in over 30 years!!!!!

Joined here a few months back, been an active swl for many years and after hearing local nets running and the increased interest in the hobby thought it was time to get involved again.

Also setting up a home base but one thing at a time.

The big thing I noticed was that newer cars (Mine is 11 years old so not exactly new but compared to cars from 30 years ago) that they don't have so much spare space inside.

A average size CB radio would not fit anywhere!

So I did some measuring, got an Albrecht 6110 cigarette packet sized radio (Reminded me of the old Jaws 2 radio), also got a extension speaker (Midlands (Compact)) and a small set of boots.

Got lots of wires, got out my drill and bits and set about converting the centre consul. 8 hrs later a snug fit was achieved, which can all be hidden out of site with the close of a lid, it all has good air flow when in use so no problem there. The antenna is a mag mount, hidden in the boot and ready for deployment when needed. As my work tends to disagree having cars on site with CBs (or any Radio equipment fitted) it should not draw attention as not out and set up till I need it.

I gave out a call last night on channel 38 (local net) and had a quick radio test and chat with an Andy about 5 miles away, his and mine signals both loud and clear on standard 4 watts. Not tried the amp out yet but should improve signal by around 2.25 units on a good day.

The president 145 mag mount took a fair amount of cutting down to achieve a good swr (UK FM Ch1 1.3 Ch 40 !.2 (Tuned for channel 20 upwards general use (Ch 30 1.1)).

So onwards and upwards, as time allows I will now be looking to test it out on the nets, (Will try and contact you Tim (Chichester way) When I can). So if you here the26 CT 2064 call sign give me a shout.

Over the coming months I will look to get the home base set up (Now got a old but lovely audio York 869 Homebase for UK 40 and a Alinco DX 135 (Which I still cannot get connected to a computer to program (See other posts on that one!)) for SSB and CEPT channels.
All the best
Steve
