i am new to ham radios so sill learning
does anyone have any idea of what limited space good pull in and transmit out multi band hf antenna ( not one of the telescopic ones with wire jumper had one and that was rubbish )
I live in a set of 3 floor flats I am on the second floor and only place I have is a back veranda
I cant put an outside antenna up as last one I had council told me to take it down
I cant put a wire antenna up due to communal gardens
so that only leaves my back veranda which is 8ft high 5ft wide 9ft long
and an antenna that does not cost the earth like some I have seen

all advice I am very grateful for
thanks folks

Given the restrictions you posted in your other message you're looking at working portable. There is no alternative to putting wire in the air. If you weren't happy with the one you tried then no other solution which could be applied would be enough for you either as they're all a massive compromise on all but the 10m band.

This goin to be down to how much money you can afford tho throw at a antenna forget the things that MFJ and Moonraker sell and suchlike others but you need to think what you can do and if you upto getting off you ass to change antennas of shift a jumper ?

I can recommend a Outbacker antenna far from cheep but you get what you pay for Click for LINK

They ain't cheep or the next thing is getting some AmPro monoband antennas for what bands you want to use at about £20 each and a V dipole centre eBay item 160853660766 and spend time setting them up and it will take some time tuning them it but it will work and maybe a better option as you can chuck £40 every few weeks at antennas or near on 350 at the Outbacker

Well the ATAS will only work on the 857 but I think MFJ do a bit of kit that makes it usable on any radio !

Hi Michael, you could always use a sota pole or one of the many flag poles available on ebay and put up a dipole type wire antenna in the communal garden in effect portable but at home, the neighbours shouldn't be concerned and you don't need planning permission for temporary antennas, 20 meter band dipoles are relatively small and it's a great band for DX most of the time.
