What a bunch of sad old cynics you lot are.

He's not a lonely heart. He's got the girl, now he wants a radio.

I think its a real nice idea, but I think you'll have to get some radios and arrange things yourself. There just aren't any gatherings like there used to be.

I knew a bloke who met and proposed to his wife on CB. They are both licensed hams now.

I still keep in touch via email with my first serious girlfriend. And funnily enough, a few months back she moved to Australia. Only 4 and 1/2 hours away. Practically next door! I just need to get rid of her husband and my wife and we'll be sorted. I wonder if she still looks like she did at 19?

Dont think its a question of being sad old critics, I think its being sarcastic with a bit of banter thrown in now, we did give the OP some advise at the beginning of the thread and told him CB is not like was back in the early days but good luck in your quest , but then we had a couple of posters who had to be sarcastic towards our answers which TBH what brought on the banter/ sarcasm so in way it not really directed towards the OP . be honest though this is more of what you fine on Facecr@p thing asking about it, not really on a radio forum

Hey - so I'm back lol.
Mixed reaction to my first post but I pretty much expected that I suppose. I'll try not to bore everyone this time, lol.

So I'm gonna go with a plan B...
Does anyone have, or know of anyone that has a President KP77 rig to sell?
It does not have to be a working model, I intend to use it as a prop only (although it will probably end up as an ornament) . I am not going to trouble you all with the plan I have, safe to say it's gonna take a little pre-organising.
The outcome will be the same as plan A ☺

Thanks, Dean

Hi Dean,
You might want to try posting in the WANTED section of the forum, in the Market Place area, you never know, somebody might have one :)
Good luck with both your search for the Radio, and your romantic gesture, I hope it all works out for you.

Hello all
I am a new member. I found this forum yesterday and I am so glad it exists as I have an idea but up 'till now little hope of making it real.

Some back story:

UK - Essex - Romford
1981 - I had just left school and got my first ever CB home base unit the moment it all went legal.... A President KP77. Erected the Silver Rod outside the bedroom window and entered the brave new world, lol. The rig was my pride and joy. Upgraded with a Silver Eagle mic I brought back from a holiday in the USA and a small amplifier and spent every night buzzing up and down (all 40!) channels. Made lots of new friends, had regular meet-ups in the local pub, eyeballs etc. Fun days indeed.
I was one of very few owners (locally anyways) of a President rig. Thus took the handle 'President' , how lazy was that? LOL
A few of months after getting my set up, I encountered a new female voice on the airwaves. I used to sit on channels listening to her chatting without announcing "on the side". I fell in love with her voice, her banter and infectious laughter.
When I eventually got the balls to start chatting to her we were inseparable. Every day we would find one another and chat for hours.
Her handle was 'Dreamy Sue' and it turned out she only lived a couple of roads away from me. I was 16, she was 14 and had been bought her rig to keep her occupied and out of trouble, LOL. The crazy thing was that she had the same rig as me - the President KP77... this was insane as I did not know anyone with a President rig, let alone the same as me.
We met up and we clicked instantly. We were together three years, on and off, and I upset her on occasions, like boys do. Her parents would confiscate the fuse from the back of the CB at times to prevent her from being on late. I gave her a spare, lol. One day in a rage her step-dad smashed her rig to pieces, sick of her being upset by me (I have daughters and now know the feeling). She was off-air for a short while before she was bought a replacement smaller unit.
We eventually split up buy remained good friends and kept in touch.
I watched her get married, have kids.
She watched me get married, have kids. (By watched I don't mean we were invited to each others wedding, lol)
She kept in touch with my mum always. I would get a birthday email every year, as would she from me.

Fast forward 30 years...
I heard she had got divorced after 19 years of marriage, and got with a new partner. she had moved all over the place Essex to Norfolk, back to Essex and even considered emigrating to Canada until getting cold feet literally two months before the move and remained in the UK. By this time we had lost touch. I had forgotten to wish her a Happy Birthday one year and paid the price in silent treatment.
In July 2013 my own 21 year marriage went belly-up. No 3rd party involvement (on my part anyways, but that's another story). On November 21st that year, whilst the divorce was still underway, I fired off four identical emails to addresses that Sue used to use....I did not know if any would still be 'live'. Luckily one was.
She replied, albeit sceptically, and asked how I was. I didn't tell her of my impending divorce. I was fishing to see her relationship status really, as I did not want to risk upsetting a stable relationship, if there was one.
Amazingly, by some fluke of fate, she announced that she had just ended a five year relationship, but was still living in the same home as the man while she worked her 4 weeks leaving notice off at her job managing a kindergarten. She was then moving to her mothers house in Norfolk.
This was true fate if I had ever seen it.
We met up on the 21st December 2013 and the spark was still well and truly there.
We got a place and moved in together mid 2014. In Essex.
I was her first love. Whenever she tells the story, ladies go gaga, lol. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be....

So here we are, 2016 and still very much in love. 35 years on. President and Dreamy Sue. I've just turned 50.

Which brings me to the point of this post (sighs of relief).
I want to propose to Dreamy Sue. I think it would be very fitting and romantic to propose on air using a CB radio (maybe even a KP77, lol).
I need to know if there are any CB radio conventions/shows, preferably in the east of England where I could make this a reality.... I will need your help to make this happen.
If anyone has any ideas I am all ears.
We go out driving at weekends in the summer so could easily 'stumble upon' a CB convention etc. Or I could find it advertised on Facebook, there are loads of possibilities. I just need to get her to the right place at the right time. I have time on my side :thumb:

I'm hoping there are a few die-hard romantics out there who can help.

D
watch out for a lighthouse on air event perhaps
