We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Got the Foundation now book ordered today. Hope I can get my head around it and get the exam out of the way.. Anyone know what the practical entails?

Trying to get in contact with a local ham to arrange the exam etc.

I enjoy cb but fancy leaning more and getting myself a HF setup when conditions drop on 11m.

Any advice most appreciated.

Cheers,

Rich

Very little practical involved Richard, simple appreciation of morse, bit of radio operating and thats about it, it's the intermediate that has you putting PL259s on and building simple circuits. You'll have no bother if you keep reading the book matey!
They say hard work never killed anyone..........but why take the chance?

Hi Richard as already said, it's pretty basic stuff and designed to encourage people into the hobby so nothing to worry about, good luck !

I just got in contact with my local club. I haven't joined up or anything yet.

They said they can arrange a time for some simple practical training/mentoring including setting up a station, tuning an antenna or two, listening and making a few contacts and sending and receiving some simple morse.

An evening or afternoon should cover it apparently.

Should be fun.

Even though that is a good practice site don't rely on those questions alone they haven't changed in years best advice is read the book till you know it as all the answers are in the book and once you have passed the corse get on and get the next level done while its fresh in your head and then you will have 50w to run

I would echo that. The hamtests are all well and good, but you get to a point where instead of answering the question as you should, you are simply remembering the answer to the question. At that point the tests become a waste of time.

It is worth getting hold of the syllabus for the level you are studying, and also a copy of the licence terms and conditions. At all levels a big chunk of the marks are to be had on the subject of licensing, at Foundation level you need 19/26 marks, the licensing section accounts for six marks.....

It is also worth having a look at Chelmsford ARS Website training section (Click for LINK), they publish all their training slides.

I've come across this and it starts tomorrow for me. Its split into 9 blocks and will help you pass. I think once you pass the foundation there are other things they cover too. http://www.essexham.co.uk/foundation-online

Excellent.

You still need to find a local club to run you through the practicals and exam though.
