I have just installed an Anytone AT5555 in my disco 2. I have a 7" magmount on the roof between the two glass sun roofs with a stinger antenna. SWR is 1.2 on channel 40 and a little more on channel 1 but my reception is non existant! What am I doing wrong please. I also have an Albrecht AE6110 (birthday present last week) and no reception as such with this either! Am I destined to not be able to talk to anyone. I know it is me doing something wrong but any suggestions would be great please as I'm now pulling my hair out! |

I doubt it's this easy but - make sure you have the volume turned up and the squelch down, It could just be conditions where you live - lke location and lack of other users in the area Try parking the car up somewhere high and see if you get anything Overlooking a town or d#something would be good. I have ab 18 foot antenna - and sometimes I can get absolutely nothing on occasions. There are not as many users about as there used to be. I have also run my mag-mont perched on a felt roof It picks up if there is anyone out there I also live close to an orbital motor way and there is rarely anything coming from that nowdays. I was the mway couple of days back - saw hundred of trucks etc but none with a cb antenna - so it is quiet out there - it will be more harder for a magmount tp pull stuff in if you are low down and surrounded by hills If you're shouting and get no reply - it could be that no one can hear you - if your just running low power,- mag-mounts can tend to be a bit localised The best test is to find somewhere there may be people on the radio - or arrange a friend to give you a shout at a pre arranged time. |if everything is connected properly you should be able to receive a local signal. Good luck. |

Hi, before I say anything else not being funny but have you got much experience with cb radio as I don't want to be telling you to suck eggs so with this in mind apologies upfront if I am. Is it the full length stinger or the mini stinger. I use the full length one 1.55m and have no problems at all getting out, I can DX etc despite others not liking them I love them. Your SWR is perfect it can only be that no one is around you, I done a drive from the NE England to Bradford and got only a handful of contacts it was very disappointing when mobile. |

Thanks for the replies. I guess it must be the area I'm in. It is a full length Stinger. Maybe I am expecting to hear the amount of chatter I remember from the 70s/80s. Picked up something yesterday while on the A14 mostly though sounded like Polish. Have ordered a Sirio performer 5000 pl so hope that will help. Intend to mount it permananently on the spare wheel bracket and earth it with cooper grade. See if that helps. Thanks for the good advice. 73 |

Seriously mate the days of the 70's & 80's (Ahh the wonder years remember so well ) are a distant memory, I live in a very built up area in North London and back in those day we couldnt find a clear channel , but now there is about 5 of us in my area now and about only ever two or three of us on at any time, so your radio and antenna I would say are OK its just how CB is now , SSB is much more popular now TBH |

Currently you probably won't hear a damned thing. The sun has turned off HF to the point its "have I got an antenna plugged in?" time. Always worth looking at solar reports before automatically condemning an install. Whats important to look at is the K index. K above 3 is bad, K at 4/5 or more is basically "turn off the radio" and as I type its at a level 4 because we're currently being hit by a solar storm. SFI is important for DXing and you want 150 or higher for good DX and its currently at 103. Last week was even worse. Edited by Northern Crusader, Friday, 13. November 2015, 20:40.
