Great advice given :thumb: but just to add make sure you use the correct exact size masonry drill bit , then the bolts will tighten up a treat

Yes please use appropriate size Rawl Bolts James, the picture was just for reference so you know to use RAW BOLTS and not plugs and screws

Another for Rawl Bolts, big meaty buggers. I have a 11 metre high pneumatic mast with a Hexbeam on it bolted to my garage using TK brackets fixed to the wall by rawl bolts. There is a hell of a lot of weight on that and the brackets have stayed put even though they're supporting the full weight of the mast plus any wind loading when I use it unguyed.

Point to note, don't try to make up for a lack of pole length by putting the brackets higher up the wall. You need enough bricks and weight above the row where the top bracket goes to keep those bricks you put the bolts in in place. Put it too high on a gable end with a house with a pitched roof and you could find the top part of that gable end being pulled down in a bad enough wind.

Also don't have the top and bottom bracket too close together. The longer the pole and the antenna on top of the pole the further apart they need to be to reduce the lateral stress put on the bottom bracket. Personally I like at least 4ft between them unless its a really short pole and light, short antenna such as a dualbander.

I can vouch for the bolts recommended by Adrian in post 3. I used these on a scaffold pole with a 1.2 metre sat dish on top - very high wind loads on those - and they will now probably never come out/

On a sat forum I helped run we had a lot DIY'ers putting up dishes on houses/ i 'LL JUST MENTION THAT Some ouys had problems with the bolts splitting the brick - probably through overkill with the size bolt used.

Always helps if the bottom of a pole can rest on the ground to bear some weight.

Thunderbolts are great too. Grip all the way from head to tip with a deep thread and can also be taken out and reused if need be.

+1 on the thunder bolts, we use them.in the construction industry and are very strong and versatile. I wouldn't hesitate to use them myself.

Thanks to both High Voltage and Fixerman for posting about Thunderbolts. I'd had a handful of them which I'd come across from god knows where and used them previously to fix some C clamps to a fence post and was well impressed by both their ease of use and just how well they stayed put. I'd not seen them since and didn't know what they were called so didn't know what to ask for.

I have in the past witnessed bricks splitting with the big bolts.

I use Fischer UX 10x60 's http://www.screwfix.com/p/fischer-high-performance-universal-plugs-ux10-6-8-x-60mm-pk50/92197
(Read the reviews, they are ace)

Drill a 10mm hole, and them squirt polyester resin into it. Click for LINK

Tap the Fischers into the wall.
Wait 10 mins, for resin to set
Use M8 x 70mm stainless coach bolts

I have never had a failure
