Hi

Any advice on this? Basically I've dusted off my old Harvard 27/81 channels CB and tested it with my old slightly battered hand held to see if they both work. Being in South London, I understand it's a bit quiet on the muppets so can't ask out. Basically the hand held can recieve from the mobile rig, but the hand held doesn't appear to send. I have the squelch fully open on the rig and no reception from the hand held.

It's not a great issue as I'm a couple of weeks from getting a new rig.

Cheers

Tom

Hi Tom, indeed rigs can go deaf, dumb or both if they develop faults in the RX or TX stages of the radio, normally dumb when the RF finals blow due to high SWR, I`m not far up the road from you in Sydenham if you want a radio check let me know, the UK40 is a bit dead locally but I have made some contacts on the 19 recently, aim for a rig with the CEPT channels preferably with upper and lower sidebands and you will find things a bit better there, not like the old days though !

Hi Jeff

Thanks for the reply. I'm down the road in Catford. I'll probably give things a go on Monday round the time of Delboy's Big Net event as I'm tied up until then so can't do much. Maybe listen out for you then if you're about.

Cheers

Tom

I had the same issue couple of nights back - turns out there was an antennae issue and full volume was required on the receive. Try switching the antennae over....

Hi Jape

Thanks# for the info but I've tried with two antennae and the volume was up. Just getting the usual noise with a fully open squelch. As I say, not a big issue as I'm looking to get a multimode rig soon.

Cheers

Finally have the "new" CB! It's a cheap and cheerful Intek M100 plus. £26 plus postage on Ebay. Just given it a quick test and it's making it to another Cber in another part of Catford at least :)

Usually what happens with old rigs is the VCO goes out of alignment due to ageing of components so you end up losing TX or RX or both on some or all channels. Also the FM descriminator can do the same resulting in a deafer radio. Half an hour on a bench with proper test gear to realign them usually sorts them out.
