Hi hope this is in the right place. Complete newcomer be gentle. Have a president McKinley CB in my van. Getting to grips I think but have no frequency counter on the unit. I believe switched on usb channel 12 would that give me 27,555 ? Also should the CB/pa switch make any difference to receiving signal as was told to have CB/pa switch on pa anl on and hi switched on when on normal fm40 and switched onto CB with no anl and on low when using ssb. Sounds confusing I know and apologies in advance for any misunderstanding. But any help would be greatly appreciated. Not having much luck on normal 40 channel was hoping for some more clarification on the ssb if possible. Many thanks in advance.

TBH Im wondering if this has been modded and has the uk 40 on one of the switches such as the cb/pa switch, without connecting it to a frequency counter its trial and error Im afraid

When on SSB like all SSB radios the needle only moves when you speak and at different levels of your voice

TBH mate no offence if you are really new to CB Radio you should have got a more simpler radio first , as that radio is a complicated old school radio for a newbie but a very good radio

The Mckinleys are good radios, they have the same PCB as the Stalker 9's

The FM version you have sounds like it has been eprommed for the UK40, which isn't a bad thing if it has been done properly.

If you want to figure put where you're transmitting and don't want to spend too much money on it, you could get one of those RTL-SDR TV cards and use it to see where you are. I see them for under 10 pounds on amazon.co.uk and you could probably get it for under $10 on e-bay or dx.com. If you put the card close to the radio, you don't need a complicated receive antenna for the card. Quite often, just a piece of wire will do. They aren't very good at general HF, but they all cover 11 m and 10 m bands.

I attached a picture of how one of the free pieces of software look like, with a radio nearby keyed to CEPT channel 21 in FM.

I agree with this, how many of us have bought a radio to get us started only to sell it for alot less and buy another
