Just been up the loft to get my rig, was thinking about going mobile so went to see what rig I had up there. Yeah, it's an Intek M-490 Plus, doesn't seem to have SSB on it though, I bought the rig new in about 2005, and its been up the loft for the last 5 or 6 years +. Was just wondering, would it be worth getting an antenna and accesories for this rig and go mobile static, or would it be better to get a rig with the SSB feature on, any thoughts guys? Thanks. |

Hello Paul, If you are wanting to do things like hill-top dxing, then I would get an ssb radio, as a majority of people use this mode when dxing on 11m. Also, more operators are using ssb on mid-block nowadays, due to it been legalised last year. Having ssb would help you to make the most out of the hobby. You can pick up modern multimode radios like the Anyone 5555/Superstar 6900, new and used for reasonable money. These radios would cover all your needs on cb/11m. Maybe sell the Intek, to offset the cost of buying a multimode. 73s John. |
