So I was thinking the other day how much power could a T2LT handle before it starts to melt or bursts into flames?
I am not wanting to be pushing stupid amounts of power like 1Kw mind lol

Only one real way 2 find out, anything else would be guess work.Just have another length of coax at the ready to make a new one.....................

I know they can take 100 watts with no issues, because me mum told me....................

Depends on what coax you use and the thickness of the top wire.

If you use something like RG213 or RG8 and use a heavy gauge top bit then you could probably get away with some serious power.

I have run over 100 watts into one made from RG-58 and a 1.5mm square top section.

As good and as popular as they've proved to be, the simple coax choke is never going to be 100% efficient with these antennas and there will always be some leakage past it - the more power that is put into it will mean more RF will likely find it's way into the feeder and the problems could begin ;) (amps that stay in TX when the key is dropped, SWR that varies when you grab the mic lead and odd noises on TX audio etc.).

It's certainly a great QRP antenna, but I wouldn't recommend it as a QRO one - 4w all good, 25w should be good, 100w maybe if the choke is sweet, over 100w, probably not.

The most I have put through my T2LT is 0.5KW and have had no problems so far apart from when I had excess cable coiled up outside the car and the coil of cable got abit warm. My antenna is made of rg58. My centre wire (top part of antenna) is 1.5mm single wire.
