Charlie Tango DX is a group dedicated to Hobby Radio Users in all forms, whether CB, Amateur, PMR446, Scanning and Short Wave Listening.
We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Hi everyone, my name is Les and I am new to radio comms. well I say new but I did use AM CB in the 70's (naughty I know). Now that AM is legal I thought I would give it another go. Since deciding this I have been getting quite excited about it. It's my birthday next week and have hinted that a CB would be very welcome, have even suggested the ALBRECHT AE6110 as a starter! really looking forward to getting started and to cap it all off my very own 'call sign' would be fantastic. look forwaed to hearing fom you all.

Hi Leslie,
Welcome to CT DX group.
If you would be so kind as to update your location to display the nearest town/city I will gladly issue you a call-sign (we ask all call-sign holders to do this).
A.M. is legal now yes indeedy, but it is not very popular. USB & LSB (mainly USB) is the preferred choice for DX-ing, although even FM can be very good on the new legal frequencies available to us (the old midband).
There is plenty of good advice already posted on the forum, so it may be good reading to use the search function, and check out some of the older posts, especially in the 'multimode' section, although it sounds like you have already made your mind up on the radio you would like :)
Enjoy the forum, and if you would like to ask anything, please don't hesitate, we pride ourselves in being helpful and welcoming :)

Hi Leslie, welcome to the forum and back to the hobby, as others have stated it may be worth investing a little more in a multi mode radio including upper and lower side bands, there is plenty of choice to suit most budgets, be aware that some of these radios are legal in the uk eg: President Grant 2 and others are not, they are commonly referred to as Export radios (more bands) so be certain about what you want and are prepared to use. Good luck !
