Hi all

Need some advice just bought a president grant II, and trying to adjust my antenna to get a good SWR although using the internal meter as its for a mobile rig, but the issue I am experiencing is when I try to transmit the TX icon comes up but cuts off after a second. I have a two simple stinger antenna one 90cm and the other 158cm but its the same on both? Its worked ok a couple of times so not sure if its something im doing wrong?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Regards

First thing I would do is use an external SWR meter as the one in the radio isn't very good!

The first first thing I would do before checking the SWR would be make sure that the mic connections are all OK and that there are no loose ones, because with a duff mic you cant get a TX to check the SWR.

Open up the end of the mic plug, with a jewellers screwdriver and twist 90 degrees and pull ever so gently. Under some tape(?) you will see the mic wires. Have a look see at them to see if anything is untoward.

Are you in a position to "borrow" a like for like mic from a friend? It has to be a like for like mic mind.

Hi Olly

What mode are you testing your swr in ? Ideally should be FM if testing while in ssb you will need to produce a constant audio tone ( whistle ) sorry in advance if I have stated the obvious

Thanks guys

I think i will get a external SWR meter first and see if things look different, I have been testing swr in UK FM, there is a FM only option but the issue happens on both. I will open the Mic at last resort as this radio is still in warranty so need to be careful not to void it but curiosity will most likely get the better of me.

Well therw some things to go on now.

Cheers
