I have the GPE in the garden on a 8ft aluminium scaffold pole. It gets out well and is decent enough for dx when conditions allow. If I was to raise it 10ft or so would there be a noticeable improvement in performance on tx and rx? I'm not able to attach it to the house as it is pretty ugly! |

Well the old saying is hight is might , would say yes , give it a go if you are allowed to do it ,TBH you've got nothing to loose, I use have the same antenna lasted me nearly 18/20 year untill a kamikaze pigeon flew in to the top section of it and bent it , also killed the pigeon No doubt though Rich someone will come along with all the technical mumbo jumbo about antennas and say I'm wrong but I ve always found in all of my 40 years on CB higher the antenna the better mate Edited by Nubster, Tuesday, 13. You may get slightly more bg noise as your are pulling more in, but on the otherhand, you may get less noise if your farther away from the houses. Try it and see

My GPE27 is about 20 feet off of the ground and really does bang it out. The higher you can get it the better really as the further it can "See", but you should get decent skip contacts with it quite low down. |

It won't affect skip that much as skip is just random its either there or not but it will improve local contacts as they rely more on line of sight so in conclusion get it up as high as you can |

Height is might on FM for local contacts but for dx work it will be fine where it is,if its working ok for you now leave it where it is and the gpe27 is the best value for money antenna on the market in my opinion.... |

Trees are for all intents and purposes RF transparent for HF so shouldn't cause any issue. As others have said it'll be the local contacts you'll notice the difference with, not DX. Horizontal antennas are where you notice the difference with height with DX.
