Charlie Tango DX is a group dedicated to Hobby Radio Users in all forms, whether CB, Amateur, PMR446, Scanning and Short Wave Listening.
We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Hello CT!

I thought I'd sign up as I found this group while researching something else. I used to be a regular CB user back in the early 80s, through to the mid 90s. I then took my amateur radio tests and morse tests and was granted a class A license. However, work, moving, all manner of life events made me forget about radio for a while, and to be honest, I assumed with the advent of the internet etc, no one would still be using it. I'm pleased I was wrong.

I have since got rid of all my gear... I had a beautiful set up based around a Kenwood TS-850SAT.. all I have now is a Ham International Multimode II in my Mum's loft LOL

I may dig it out and fire it up :)

Any how... despite having a ham license, I never really took to it.. always preferring 11 metres. Something about hearing the Americans drifting in on the then illegal AM channels, and the italians with echo mikes on "triple 5"... ahh.. memories.

So... Hello from Blackpool

David.
CB, 11 Metres, Ham Radio... it's all radio, so stop fighting about it.

Hi David,
Welcome to CT DX group.
There are a lot less operators on now, than back then, but 11m can still be fun especially now the new CEPT frequencies (old midband) are legal, and with all modes too.
Unfortunately we are on a downward spiral for the solar cycle, so propagation is dropping off, you should have come back on 4 years ago !

Thanks Nik,

Yeah... I know I missed solar max... but such is life :) I remember the solar max around '80 to '81.. that was awesome.. US stations on what are now CEPT AM channels coming in at +30 on my little Commtron IV with a 2ft Firestick in my Mum's Honda Civic.. LOL

I enjoy local nets too though, and having a Ham license means I can chew the fat on 40metres if I throw up a long wire.

I'd love to know if there are any local nets... I'll make another post later.

Thanks for the welcome!

Hello and welcome, David.

There is a regular net on a Wednesday night, starting at 7pm. It is on USB on mid-block. You will have to scan around, as the channel used can change from week to week, due to interference.

Thanks John. Will listen out for it when I get a radio set up. I'm not even sure if the multimode works!

I forgot to request a callsign... Do I need a request post?
