Hi all Getting back into the old CB after a fair while away due to a friend wanting to get one for his van. Dusted down my old Midland 27/81 rig and Harvard 27/82 handheld but looking to get a new rig with the new FM/AM frequencies. A quick question, though. Is it possible to get decent DXing on the regular AM? Obviously a SSB radio would be better but finances are a bit tight at the moment so would be looking for a SSB rig further down the line. Cheers Tom Edited by Tombo_UK, Friday, 2. October 2015, 09:12.

Hello and welcome, Tom. There is very little activity on AM, compared to SSB or even FM. You will hear the Americans coming in on AM over the winter months, especially on Ch6 mid-block (27.025).... But they can be difficult to contact, as they run a lot of power. You would be better off, waiting and saving up for a SSB radio with good frequency coverage on 11m. You should be able to pick-up something like an Anytone 5555/Superstar 6900/Intek HR5500/Alinco DR135DX for less than £100 secondhand, or around £150 new. 73s John. |
