I got decent enough instructions with my sy27/3 and after 15mins it was put together and ready to go.... dont cut or redrill anything and it worked fine on 10m with a tuner.. :pirate2:
Thank you Sam agreeing not to cut or drill stuff :thumb: Then I get Geoff PM ing me saying I'm negative on suggesting it
The swr on 10m was just under 2:1 but my inbuilt tuner brought that down to 1:1 and around 1:3 across 11m (working down on 26mhz with ease) :thumb:

Does make me laugh when people give advice when they have no actual knowledge of the equipment...i keep quiet unless i know enough about something to comment

Dave (lagerland) good luck with the yagi tomorrow,im sure it will do the biz :thumb:

I just follow what the manufacturer said, usually best which is the advice I gave.

I would not want a 2:1 VSWR and an ATU in line personally, better to SWR it for where you are going to use it. In the end up to the end user if they want to have it working spot on or not.

Good luck.

Just to confirm,as have all the other Sirio 3 element owners who have put theirs together, follow the instructions EXACTLY and when its 15ft or higher the SWR will be 2:1 from 26.285 to 28.660 without the need to cut/trim your antenna.
On 27mhz it stays well below anything to worry about. I would use an air choke near the feed point though.

Many use antennas that need a bit of tuning thats why hf radios have inbuilt tuners... :RTFM:

30+ yrs of radio has proven to me a 2:1 swr isnt bad when using a out of band antenna, tuners do the work needed :thumb:

But for 27.5 the instructions say exactly "cut it".

Quazer one where are you using the antenna, frequency wise ?

Given Quazer one is not a licensed amateur my advice is sound. (he will not be using it on ham bands). If anyone think 2:1 is good think again. You have 11pct of your power coming back into your finals.

Very glad for you.

But if you want a VSWR where all your power is going out where you want it, tune it like Sirio says.

Perhaps the confusion is that there are two models supplied by Sirio.
The SY 27-3 has no need to be cut for the band width as in my previouse post and the instruction manual mentions no cutting.
The other one (26.5-30mhz tunable 3 element antenna) does.
What do your instructions say Geoff?

Cannot find them (was not too precious with them once I cut it as this will be going out once in a blue moon if that) There appears to be one model currently on sale and unless you got old stock it's this one and it says cut:

http://www.sirioantenne.it/product-manual/Id-098_10-09-2011.pdf

The only reason why I am posting here is to help the original poster. Not for a pissing contest.

The instructions with Marks link do mention trimming/cutting and are different to Sams and mine.
That 3 element maybe has longer elements?

27mhz and 3 element
How did you work that out, under electrical data (the important bit) it says:

– Frequency range: tunable from 26.5 to 30 MHz

No mention of 27 there

How does it get tuned.... a scotch mist extender? or a Cozzmik ATU ?

Just looked and all the models for sale seem to be 27-3 models.
Perhaps yours was old stock?
More importantly is what model Andy has and what his instructions say.
