Ha ha ha.. Well, perhaps a little too short to get a nice convy going, still very precise I've actuallyheard good number of "Bob"s on air and when the poor stations at the other end got the mike, usually they've had absolutely nowhere to go than either start talking to themselves or politely try to end the QSO ![]() Thank you soo much Sam So glad my little story could lighten up ever so little and yes, I hope wedo soon. Have been on listening on both 10 m and ch 24 a couple of days now, but the bands have been rather quiet though. Would have been soo nice to air my new CT call on 11, 'cos on 20 it might not go all that well I guess there would be a looot of questions.. Or a totally crazy pile up ![]() When I'm not on the CW part of 20 m I usually end up on 14.320.. There's a group of swedish hams keeping contacts with other swedish hams abroad and even with my R5 and QRP SSB, reports are mostly quite good, so perhaps there, if not on 11 ![]() All the best Sam.. 73's and cu on the bands //Uffe 21CT017 - SM7PGA |

Indeed Paul.. I'm a chocolate maniac, but if you let me choose, I'll go for radio ![]() Yeah I remember those bricks with the looong telescopic ones Yeah, they certainly went on formiles And as I remember they were real AM sets with high level modulation and not as nowadays,an emulation type of modulation.. Anyway.. Great old radios.. Of course there were the cheap ones with tons of IM and CM, then there were the other ones.. AM noise coming through the speaker as soft silk for the ears.. Not to mention the SSB rigs with those little wider crystal filters and phased sideband supression.. *sighs* Funny you mentioned because I asked and what was hiding in one of those boxes underthe Christmas tree was that Handic 32 Yaaaay.. Happy you got your Midland 150M and got onyour way to heaven too ![]() Ha ha.. Yeah.. those were the days.. A campervan and up late.. Starsky and Hutch.. We didn't own a campervan though, but I can imagine the tension when you were at it, 'cos I think I felt the same when I had my first contact with the UK on ch 26 LSB.. It may of couse have been very innocent, but still it was outside our permitted frequencies and I did it only once, because then I decided to move on to amateur radio. I was quite young and got that my interests were a lot deeper and like you I've always been interested in the nuts and bolts as well as how waves propagate in different layers. Find that very exciting still. But surely I was up late and long past bed time in the early ye.. Oops.. am still up late lol What bands are your favourites Paul?

I have dipoles cut for 10, 20 and 40 here at home Uffe but can get most bands above 40m with some tweaking ![]() Sweden comes in good here on 40 a lot of the time and 20m also so maybe we will bump into each other sometime. I like working mobile and portable sometimes too but not as often as I'd like. 11m was always my favourite in the past mainly due to it being the only band available to me for so long but it has been quite poor this year and made me explore the ham bands a little more than previously. Again not as much as I'd like but that's life! It has certainly given more life to the hobby for me! I might even try my hand at the CQWW SSB contest this year again just for the laugh ![]() |

Mmm.. it definitely does.. I got such a boost for my interest in radio thanks to amateur radio, 'cos the possibilities seemed endless, and I was happy as can be on 144 MHz SSB and CW. I actually practiced my CW on 2 m before I did the exam for the HF certificate.. Glorious ![]() Yeh, 11 m hasn't been like I can remember it.. Much much quieter.. even during the sun spot max and even 20 and 15 has been a lot quieter than usual.. Perhaps the sun's shifting it's the magnetic flux.. Yes, 11 has always been a favourite band for me too, though I haven't been all that active, I've always been listening in on ch 24 USB Have you been trying out backscatter before? I've found that when thetrans longitudinal propagations are weak, backscatter can still be a good way to go Btw, right now, there's a nice Aurora propagation going on 144.. Lovely to hear you are interested in being portable too, because that's really nice.. I've been just the same.. Wanting to be out a lot more than I've actually been, apart from my younger years that is ![]() So now I'm prepping for being out portable a whole lot more and today I made the TLT antenna, since I didn't put the variable capacitor together with the coil, but it works beautifully and the ant. is supported by a 6 m glass fibre fishing pole.. I'm really impressed, so if you've never tried that one before Paul, I can really recommend it any day ![]() CQWW SSB Contest.. Wow.. Sounds like you're really up and about Isn't that one of those conteststhat spans over a whole weekend? Speaking about a lot of prepping Certainly a really good chanceto work a lot of new countries at the same time, so I wish you good luck and a really nice contest ![]() Once again my apologies for my English.. I know it's not the best there is and I might.. hm.. most definitely use expressions and combinations of words that surely sound really funny, and it's of course because I'm still learning, but if there are expressions that sound all too crazy, then please don't be afraid to correct me and perhaps kindly help me in the right direction I really want to do this rightand I would be soo thankful, because unlike you all here in Britain, I didn't have the privilige of being born here.. Still. I would love to be able to speak and write in real British.. You know, the British that just comes naturally.. Like Yoda would have put it: Priviliged, you are

I don't think you need to worry about your English anyway Uffe, it's pretty impeccable to me. In fact it would be very difficult to know that you weren't writing in your mother tongue. As Yoda would say," Not bad, you are". ![]() Yes, I've managed some contacts into Scandinavia and northern UK on backscatter during aurora in the past on 11m. In fact 108CT310 Allan in the Western Isles of Scotland and myself had a few attempts to make contact with each other some time when the index was high back but never quite made it. It is likely that the distance was too short. I should have some pics somewhere here in the forum of my 'bazooka' antenna I used on 11m both portable and at home. Great little performer it was and very similar to the T2LT only with the braid folded back over itself rather than being cut off. I made it according to 26CT104 Gary's video on youtube and it has a big following. Cheap, cheerful and very effective for what it is! Gary's videos are well worth a watch. The CQWW contest last year was my first try and I was only answering calls rather than calling myself. I was very relaxed about it all and just did a bit here and there over the weekend so wasn't really expecting anything much to come out of it when I submitted the log for marking. My Q count was only a couple of hundred odd and I think the final score was about 29000 or thereabouts with the mults. I must have picked a time though when everyone else was away on holiday as I somehow managed to land first place in Scotland Haha! Doubt very much that will happen again Anyway, I'm rambling on too much so time to scram Speak soon, Paul 108CT054, MM6PHG Edit: You will see more pics on my QRZ Page Edited by High Voltage, Sunday, 4. First of all - Awfully kind of you, that was Thank you sooo much.. Second - Yaaay.. Congratulations.. Well done.. and in my view, you've got more of a natural talent for contesting, rather than everyone else being on holiday Actually being relaxed about just anything is the way to go really..Well.. In my opinion that is ![]() Third - No, you're not rambling on.. Not at all ![]() I would call it "sharing" ![]() And fourth - I think I'd better return to you in a message not to cause some serious down time for this poor forum server with m y rambling ![]() Yeah.. Speak soon.. Perhaps on 14.320? All my Best Paul.. //Uffe - 21CT017 - SM7PGA PS speaking about speaking The other day I heard a British ham checkingin on 14.320, 'cos I heard one of the Swedish hams abroad answer.. Unfortunately I didn't hear the British ham, but I'm sort of guessing it was as a result of my post here the other day Have never heard Brits on that freqbefore and it's soo great, because that shows this forum is indeed alive ![]() Constructing a.. hm.. no.. no more of my waffeling here.. A promise is a promise ds.
