Hello everyone :)

My name is Uffe and I live in the very south part of Sweden..
Well, not actually the farthest part, since that would be in the
laen of Skaane, but as far south east in Sweden you can go.
There are just a collection of islets and rocks before it's definitely
getting wet under one's feet :D

Anyway.. As well as I at the moment am a bit passive CB'er, I'm
also a radio amateur since 1984. The CB'ing started way earier,
when I was still at school and the first real radio was a hand held
Handic 32..
To be honest actually, my radio interest started already at 4 or
5 years of age, listening to one of my dad's old AGA tube radios
and all the strange noises coming out. Can't quite remember exactly,
but some time back then anyway and from there I sort of just digged in
deeper and deeper in to the world of radio. Well, it has not always been
just a hobby, 'cos for some years it even was part of my professional
life :)

Beginning my radio history with the Handic 32 and after adventures
in the "wild" together with it, naturally I became more and more interested
in experimenting with battery powered mobile rigs. So together with that
Handic 32, I got myself a 12 channel, still a crystal controlled AM set and
God, that was really something. 5 watts from a Lafayette Micro 12
into that telescopic dummy load of an antenna in the "portable pack"
I had built for it, I was outdoors whether the rain was pouring or not :D
Happy Days - Yaaay :) Then it occured to me there was something called
SSB, and suddenly I found myself at the "deep end", buried in litterature
how to construct one of these detectors and how to somehow add it
into the Lafayette.. Fortunately I didn't break anything when I was about,
but finally I got it to work. Had no crystal filter so it became a DSB receiver
on ch 24. Glorious and I was of course happy as can be.
What I didn't know was that my neighbour actually owned two SSB CB
radios, which he was very very kind to let me borrow over a snowy
weekend in February.. No I didn't go hiking outdoors with it :D
Instead I listened to operators coming in from the north, because
luckily there was, what I guess a tropo window during that saturday
night when the snow was really at it.. I had promised him not to trans-
mit, but I didn't have to anyway.. What was coming out of that speaker
was well enough to give me a fantastic memory for life..

So now, after about 30 years as a radio amateur, I find myself, still at
the "deep end" of this absolutely amazing hobby, lifestyle really, and
into some radio astronomy, of course on an amateur's budget, but one
thing that has really come back to me, are the sweet memories of the
hiking I once did when I was younger and didn't have the privilige of
owning a car. (Bikes are btw quite good as groundplanes for quarter wave
whips on 11 m :D )
And as I came across the Jester Bushcraft videos on Youtube, I watched
the next one.. and tne next one.. and the next one after that :D One thing
leading to another so here I am, applying for a Charlie Tango callsign as
I'm bringing the hiking gear together again :) Even constructing a new
portable box for the FT - 817.. Hm.. well.. I guess I'll have to come
back to that later on :)

So finally..
Thank you for letting me be a part of all this, which I'm really looking
forward to and my special thanks to you "Jester Bushcraft" - 26CTX1269
for seriously waking me up for the outdoor life again :)

73 and CU soon on the bands

Aww.. Thank you so much for the warm welcome James, Craig and Paul and thank you for
your positive feedback on the post, even that I know my english isn't the best there is, but
I'm more or less constantly practicing :)

This feels really great and yes I'm looking forward to have a nice chat with you all on
the bands :)

As a newcomer to this group, what frequencies are you usually on? SSB ch 27 perhaps?
Usually I monitor ch 24 USB, since the most SSB tfc here in Sweden is on that channel,
but just like you in the UK, we now got 40 channels AM FM SSB too, so ch 27 SSB won't
be any problem nowadays :)

All the best to you too..

73 de Uffe

That's interesting to know.

I'll listen on 24 & 27 SSB from now on I sometimes pick up Denmark & Sweden from the coast.

welcome Uffe

Welcome to CT Uffe and thank you for the lovely intro! It is really nice to hear that you still get excited about making that contact after so many years at the microphone.
I also remember hearing voices on a hand held radio for the first time way back in the 1970's and being totally hooked on the idea ever since. I had a few breaks between times for various reasons but always came back. Did the Ham ticket last year and waiting to progress from there so hopefully catch you on some of the bands sometime!

All the best from EU-009 (Orkney Islands).

Thank you so much Chris :)

Lovely.. Yeah, as soon as there is a window and I'm on, I'll definitely call and Denmark isn't all
that far away from here so chances are propagations include my neighborhood at the same time :)

Thank you so much Paul :)

First of all congratulations to your ham license and your call.. Yaayy :thumb:
Happy you did that exam, because it helps staying in touch via radio when the 11 m band is
closed. 20 m works fine almost anytime of the year and day. Been somewhat quieter evenings
and nights now though, but normally almost anytime..
Yes.. I suppose we all have our ups and downs along the way and it's the same here, but as you
said, I've also always been coming back. Never left radio totally though, 'cos even if I haven't had
enough time to get involved as much as I perhaps wanted, I've always kept a mini HF receiver
on the bedside table QRV at all times :D Really glad you're back :thumb:

What hand held did you listen to that magic day? This is where it really took off for me:

Thank you ever so much Daz.. It's not an easy thing writing in another language, less speaking, but I hope
my love for British (no offense to the american speaking world at all) it's just simply that British has in
some way always been there and as High Voltage said he got hooked on the hobby, I got hooked on British
English quite early in my life.. It's a very special melody to it and the rich variety of dialects are very much
like Swedish dialects.. Beginning to think I must have lived in Britain before.. One never knows :)

CU on the bands Daz..

All the best to you..

Thanks Uffe, glad I went for it- for sure!

One of my friend's older brother was stationed in West Germany in the 70's and arrived home with two big hand held radios. I have no idea what type they were but I do remember they were massive. And the telescopic antennae went on for miles :D

To me at the time they were the stuff of American Cop Shows like Starsky and Hutch, Cannon etc so they struck a chord with me right away! Being of the right age, I tried :santa: for a set that Christmas but he was apparently having none of it  :)

A long while after during the AM craze I finally got my very own Midland 150M 40 channel set and a DV-27 and I was off! Speaking form Dad's old campervan, at night, with curtains drawn incase I got caught- lots of fun times were had!

Even at that young age I was fascinated by how it all worked rather than it just being a way of getting in touch with someone. Then when I discovered DX, well that was better than any chocolate ;) :D
