Charlie Tango DX is a group dedicated to Hobby Radio Users in all forms, whether CB, Amateur, PMR446, Scanning and Short Wave Listening.
We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Hi all,
I just had a friend message me about finding him available call signs and we have both been searching through the lists of already allocated numbers hoping to find a gap in the line haha.
Here's my idea haha, if it's possible for someone to compile a seperate listing of all available callsigns (if they have the patience that is) and maybe even this idea could help future members hoping to begin the virus of the radiowaves like many of us :)

Only trouble with that is that the numbers go up indefinitely. Maybe if there was a delete rule after a certain length of inactivity it would clear the lower numbers for new members to use. There are loads of 'members' who have dropped out, some without so much as a post to their name, and haven't been active for years in some cases.

This would be an absolutely monumental task though and would take aaaages!

It is not something that would work in practice unfortunately, as it takes a lot of time to issue even 1 call-sign. I do not want to add more editing the 'available call-sign list' as well as everything else I (& Johnno) have to do when issuing each call-sign.
Thank you for your idea though :thumb:

It does seem easy enough to look at the call-sign list and see where we are 'up to' .... and anything under that number (I think its around 1843 at the time of posting, for 26 division) is already taken.

A delete rule Paul, sounds great in theory, but I'm afraid it also would not really work. Some members fall out of love for a while with radio, then go back to it later.
Also, imagine somebody sending a QSL card to another group operator (say 26ATxxx), then several months later the call is issued to another member, so the same CT call-sign but different operator sends a QSL card to the same other group operator (26ATxxx), he would have two different cards with the same call-sign but a completely different operator/location/etc.
It would just make no sense and confuse things.

All CT members are expected to use good operating procedure, good manners, and be friendly...Please do not chat on any calling frequencies, or use bad language on air, thank you it is appreciated.

I hadn't thought of the QSL scenario at all Nik. That would create a few more problems that it solved indeed! :D
