Think its great these days that more and more operators are getting into cheap homebrew antennas. I love this side of the hobby, wire dipoles / T2LT etc.

Im really looking forward to the results of RadioDaze Jeffrey's antenna shoot out.

Would love to see a mobile shootout as well against mega watt antennas and springer antennas etc but thats another story.

So who here uses homebrew antennas and who here uses commercial bought antennas and what do you use.

Although I dont have an antenna up at the moment I have recently prefered my homebrew antenna than a commercially bought one these days.

The antron is in the shed and has been for a long time, the last antenna used was a T2LT and the one before that was a wire dipole both antennas were on a 10metre telescopic fibreglass flag/roach pole

I have a IMAX2K up just now but that will be replaced by my Homebrew Gainmaster.......Verticals covered.

I have just put back up my 2 Element Moxon from Henry in the NL. Thats replaced my homebrew 2 element Delta Loop which will be 3 elements next spring.

GM is far better than my IMAX and my loop had a much larger Bandwidth and tuned to alot of other bands.

I need to vote for both options !

I have and sometimes use home-brew antenna's, but I also use a wire which was bought, and a T2LT which was bought too. Although you could argue they were both home-made by the blokes who sell them ;)

From now on, members can vote for both :thumb:

Although members who have already voted are stuck with their original choice I'm afraid.

I voted Homebrew. Although I use both (but mainly HB) I find it much more satisfying cobbling something together and finding it actually works! :D

Well, sometimes anyway

I'v voted for both too. I totaly agree paul and I have discoverd alot more about antena's and radio waves I just did'nt know.
So far I have
A 1/2 wave 10mtr square wire halo horizontal (the neighbor's ask'd some questions, mostly WTF is that)
A 2mtr Double bazooka is vertical (no one noticed that one)
and a store bought 5/8 wave Venom (I could'nt leave it alone so added ground plane radials) I have still to get my Licence so only 27/81 at the mo on the Venom only 4 watts mannaged 8ish miles over a hill. I have a little UV-5R to listen on 2 and 70 so have no qlue on SWR.
A friend brang his 10mtr round after a SWR check on the Halo and I guess by luck and carefull mesurements it was 1.2 we got two guy's in Germany and one in Finland.
I want to get my licence as soon as poss but moving soon so other commiments come first.
So who knows might be Dx'n to you all soon I hope
73's to all

I vote for both. Using a skip master BUT not happy tbh. Built a home brew Astroplane which was great on Rx but due to materials used (copper plumbers pipe) had the odd issue on tx. Going to switch soon as I can for an old style coinductive beast rather than me fiberglass and coils jobbie, and commission the double bazzoka I've built in a horizontal format east west. :thumb:

My main antenna is commercial (yagi beam ).
But i do have a homemade 11m band dipole in the loft made from leftover rotator cable.

Maybe more people would have a go at homebrew if antanna analyzers were cheaper ,most cb antennas cost lest than an analyzer.
INDEED YOU ARE POWERFUL !
