I have just touched my antenna and the sound from my radio (CRT ONE) changed so I had a look to see if the SWR also changed and it went well in to the red why would that be? Am I creating some sort of ground there at all? By the way I am using a Moon racker magmount that came with the radio (but will be sorting out a T2LT asap 73's Richard (163CT120) SWR on 40 is 1.3 SWR on 1 is 2 as long as I leave it where it is but if I move it at all the SWR will change |

SWR on 20 is 1.5 the only way that I can shorten the antenna is to cut more off it (that's the way I got my SWR down did it in really small bits) |

SWR readings are very good, I doubt you will get any better with adjusting. When you touch the antenna, you also to a degree, become a part of the antenna. I am not going to say I know all about antenna's, and maybe some other members with more knowledge will chip in here too, with much more accurate info. But, that said, I have a feeling that somewhere in the past I remember something about if you touch the antenna and it causes noise, it may be that your earthing system is less than desired. Not 100% sure so don't take it as fact, hopefully some further replies with more solid explanation will follow

Also if I was to move the antenna from where it is on the floor next to my coffee table, up onto the coffee table the SWR will change, any reason why that is. P.S sorry for all the stupid questions but I really don't know |

I am yes I have tried it out on my window sill but the SWR is way to high in the red for my liking, I will be going down the road of getting (or making) a T2LT and putting it onto a 9m pole in the garden |

Really needs to be outside and stuck to a large lump of metal (old engine block) Most likely not a good idea trying to adjust SWR inside ![]() Considered a "balcony" type antenna? You might be able to stick that out your window. I had one years ago, it was a 1/4 wave with a directional ground plane. I'll try and find a picture of one for you

No I wont be cutting any more off it as I don't think I will be able to find anything thin enough to replace it if I end up cutting too much off |

Martysport unfortunately I am in a down stairs flat (will be seeing if I can move to an up stairs flat Monday) with a small garden (hence the wanting to use a T2LT) and also the people that live above and next door all have children so will a permanent antenna is kind of out the question cos the children may think it would be fun to pull on the cable, also putting one on the side of the block is also out the question as the weight of the pole and antenna would just pull it off the wall as well have fiberglass cladding as insulation here |

Doesn't matter, I used one in a bungalow as a kid I lived in Ireland and got out a good 15 miles on it on an old AM set.You could attach it to your window frame (G-clamp or the like) and bring it in when not in use ![]() Click on the link below. Click for LINK |

That one is a Sirio (make) mine wasn't but I'm pretty sure the Sirio one would be better!!!!! Have a look on ebay and the like for a "balcony" antenna, you might come across other makes/models

Just to say, Any balcony antenna will be a long way behind a T2LT in terms of performance, for both groundwave and propagation. |

Of course, but a still viable option under his circumstance (if he can't put up a T2LT) Would be better than a DV27 on a biscuit tin
