T2LT

Before I start I must say that I am new to the hole idea of home made antennas.

A bit of back ground about my QTH, am in a down stairs flat with next to no garden and the people that live next to and above me all have children the play in the garden, the out side of the walls have cladding on them the same kind of stuff you would find in a loft but in a softish brick type stuff so if I was to try to bolt an antenna to the side of the block the weight of it would just pull it off and could come down on one of the children that are playing in the garden (don't want that) so I am thinking along the lines of trying to make a T2LT up. So I am wandering would it still work as well if I was to string it up round the top of my front room or dose it have to be vertical? I am running off a small mag mount atm so any improvement would be great.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Not had one of these horizontal before but what I can say is you will struggle to make local contacts as most others will have vertical antennas, it makes a huge difference for local comms but not for long distance contacts. Also having one in the house in a downstairs flat will not help much at all.

Its a difficult situation, what are your neighbours like, are they approachable, you obviously are as you are thinking about the safety of their children. :thumb:

It would be great if they would allow you to fasten one up on the roof top.

Does the garden have a tree at the bottom. Maybe a 10 metre roach pole would be a better idea with a t2ly fastened to it, that way you could have it out in the garden when the kids are at school or not outside, then just fold it down and bring it in when they are outside.

It looks as if I will have to go down the road of a roach pole really as I don't think they are approachable (don't really talk to them tbh lol) but thank you for your help any way 26PS001

Could you not just put the antenna up while you are using it, then take it down when not in use ?

If it's a T2LT and fishing rod, it literally takes 2 mins to put up/down, as I have done this myself.

I doubt the neighbours would even notice.

You will be surprised how well they work. I was, and that's why I use one as my main vertical antenna, it's up permanently now :D

Hello Richard,

Do you have a downspout beside your apartment ?... if so you could use it to hide a wire antenna.

As for the T2TL ?... they work great andas Nik said using it along with a fishing rod may be the easiest solution to your antenna problem.

Good luck Richard and I do hope that you can get it sorted out and be able to get on the air in the very near future.

Roy I have just had a look at the down pipes outside my place and they are made of metal so wouldn't that mess with the SWR at all?

While I was out there I worked out that if I was to use a T2LT I would be able to get it up with plenty of room for the children to play if they was out there but the antenna will be brought down if they do go out there to play any way.

Yep, it's important to get a FIBREGLASS mast/pole ;)

Have you got any tall tree's in the garden, you could hide on in that.
Even hang one down from the top window on a short none-metallic pole (broom handle) ?

If thats a washing line each then I would zippy tie the roach pole to the top of your and extend when you need to, takes a minute.

If you dont own one of them I would use that brick wall furthest away from any properties connect the pole to the wall and leave it there so its always ready to extend when needed. Just make sure you have the coax away from the children so they dont trip, maybe riun the coax along the top of the wall

no when I do have the T2LT sorted and pole I will only be having it out and up when I am using it as if I was to leave it out (or anything) it would get stolen and sold for drugs or drink :-( but still a nice idea

Not good that mate, i had a similar problem years ago, it doesnt feel like a home when you have to put up with crap like that and the procedure for getting anything done takes too long.

Good luck with finding a better place hope it works out sooner rather than later.

I would give the housing place a wish list, tell them you want an upstairs flat or semi detached house on the top of a very high hill ;)
