Hi my name is Gary, was in to CB radio in the early 80`s, I have recently applied to do the Ham Foundation License the course starts in September, I've re set up my 11 meter kit and am on the cusp of ordering a grant 2 for hopefully some ssb dx ing ?
should be fun to be back on the air, things seem a little quiet in the south east London area but hoping the Grant 2 will do better than my current Uk 40 rig.

I`d Like to request the next available England call sign pleas.

Thanks for the welcome Gents, it dose seem that London needs a little encouragement to get back on the air, When I get properly set up could try and get some contacts going, I'm very close to Crystal Palace, so am tempted to get up the top mobile with a big Wilson or tank whip and see how well it goes.........

Yeah your right there Gary London does need a boost a bit , considering that in old days of CB you couldn't find a empty channel in London , I should think if you get up Crystal Palace you will get out pretty well with a decent antenna

yeah those were the days ! you couldn't get a channel on the UK 40, i`m going to put a silver rod up at the back of the house as well so hopefully will have a bit more range than the lem 1/4 wave I have up in the loft, with a bit of luck will pass the foundation license and can do some 10 & 2 meter work as well.

Hi Matt, you are indeed very close to me, when I get Properly set up I will most certainly give you a call, my UK FM 40 rig has a mic problem so i`m going to order a President Grant 2 as it will do all the available frequencies, will be in touch soon.

What rig do you have? Got a 5 pin mic here you can have or you can borrow my old Mustang CB2000 if you like? Just PM me if interested.

Gary the President Grant 2 may be legal and a little better quality but have you checked out the Alinco DR135DX/CRE8900? I have the Alinco version but Radioizing are doing the CRE 8900 for £125.38 inc the USB programming lead!
http://shopzing.co.uk/cre-8900-10m-11m-multimode-am-fm-usb-lsb-cw-multicolor-display-w-usb-cable-pp.html
Far cheaper than the President and with more power and flexibility.

Hi Matt, thanks very much for the kind advice, I did indeed notice that you are using the Alinco and very nice it looks, I have already placed the order for the President so its a little late to change my mind now, i`m starting the foundation course for Ham radio on the 20th of September so perhaps it will be wise to operate a Legal station under the circumstances, the new kit should be arriving this coming Saturday so I will probably be troubling you for a radio check ! i`m pretty excited to be back on the air, the current rig is an old Harrier Home base its a 4 pin coffin style mic there are loads available on line for a tenner so will probably get one as the radio is still good considering its age.

Good luck with everything and shout me when you're sorted. The Harrier CB HQ is still a sought after classic rig and well worth getting sorted out.

Hi Matt, I certainly will be in touch, the Harrier is really nice and considering it's 30+ years old is in nearly perfect condition a new mic is a must, thanks again.....
