Hi Guys, I've had 40ch CB in the car for a while but rarely turn it on mostly because I don't hear much on it. I'm mobile so I know my range will be limited but are there many users in Co durham (particularly crook) or are there any local channels or nets I could look it. Seems a shame to have it and not use it much. Thanks in advance Ian |

You may be able to hear The Northumberland Net on CH 38 uk fm. Also there are nets on CH 37 and CH 39 around the Newcastle/Sunderland areas which you may be able to hear. |

What antenna and how is it mounted? A poorly mounted one could quite easily barely hear more than a couple of miles. A decent installed one should hear 30+ as long as there aren't hills in the way. |

Its a standard whip (can remember the brand) on mag mount at the back of the landrover I can't fit it any where else due to the roof rack. The set up is nothing fancy standard EU/UK rig, I hear a bit and have had some reasonable rig checks (SWR is ok) It just doesn't seem to be that busy but maybe I'm expecting to much, I've been away from the hobby for a long time. The set up of course could be improved but I'm not (at this point) really looking for long DX contacts would be happy to chat locally while I'll mooching about when I'm at home. |

Hi Ian, I went mobile today from South Tyneside to Yorkshire and past county Durham on the way back home, 222 mile round trip, I only got a handful of contacts all day. I find CB radio the same as amateur radio these days, not much happening for local contacts but they all come to life when the skip is flowing. Its such a shame, the good times are gone but dont give up

Most people would've been at work. I've noticed a lot more CB antennas on cars around East Yorkshire and on my general travels and not just boy racers. Guy up the road has a 4x4 and that's just sprouted one and installed via a hole drilled in the roof too so he isn't messing around. Shame he then went and shoved a springer antenna on it. So near but no cigar... |

I have to say Ive had many cb antennas over the years from dv 27, dx whip, modulator, red devils and the springer antennas. I really cannot see that much difference between them all TBH, I use a springer all the time now, spoke all over the world on it, its indestructible, I would love to do a comparison between them all but all the others are now broke lol. I honestly believe if you done a side by side comparison you wouldnt see any difference |
