My friends and boss (of sorts lol don't tell him that) was talking this morning about me not having a power supply and a dead battery, well what he said was why don't I try a 12v power pack that you find with things like Xmas lights? and that got me thinking would it work or would it just fry my radio (CRT ONE) any thoughts on that from anyone would be greatly received.

Dave thanks for the reply I have just seen this on you tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yewKhtqUF1k it looks as if he is using a PSU from a PC may have a go at that you think I could end up having to get another radio if I try it?

The issue with none-radio PSU's is they are not filtered for noise or smoothed.

I have heard of some ppl modifying PC PSU's for radio use, and they seem to be ok.

They're supposed to be in order to comply with EU EMC requirements. Cheap ass ones may not be but decent ones are. PC PSUs are a good choice as they need a clean output to not screw up the computer.

Richard I know what its like being skint myself and that's no bull5hi7 mate honestly, but it might be worthwhile thinking what Dave said and wait and get a proper PSU for the sake of a week or so at least youll be getting to buy the proper one for the radio and it wont cause any problems , if you do a bodge job now it and it all goes SNAFU you'll kick yourself
