I have a bit of a problem where I live, I live in a down stairs flat with a communal garden that the neighbours use a lot the side of the flats has cladding on it so if anything gets screwed or bolted to it and a slight wind comes along it will take it straight off again, so to my knowledge the only kind of antenna that I could use is some kind of mag mount but what one would be best for me, at the moment I don’t have a radio (other than the Baofeng UV-5R) I am wanting to get an ALINCO DR-135DX or something similar to it, so if any one has any ideas on what antenna I could/should use could you please let me know thank you.

Hi Leeboy for the info but as I don't drive the antenna will have to be in the flat some place but I do appreciate your input.

I'm not sure you will get a mobile antenna to be very efficient in your flat, as a decent groundplane will be hard to achieve.

Have you thought about a T2LT coax antenna ?
These are very cheap, but work amazingly well. You could poke one out of the window on a fishing rod as & when you wanted to transmit, or maybe even find somewhere inside your accommodation to run it.
I actually use one as my main base vertical now, although I'm lucky to have got a 40 foot spiderbeam pole to hang it on. A fishing rod is plenty strong enough though ...
