admin / mod if this is in the wronf category please move. ty.

So i have a yagi 4 element beam and all i need now is a suitable yeasu rotator.

i was going to buy the Yaesu G650C but its out of stock so now i am looking at the Yaesu G-450A

What are your thoughts on the yaesu rotators "G650C" & "G450A" i have £400 to spend on the rotator / controller + cable.

Any other suggestions for a rotator and controller.

Hi Charlie, what yagi have you got, as size will make a difference to your rotator. Obviously a 20m yagi is a fair bit bigger than a 10m one. How high are you planning on putting it?
I use the yaesu g800 model with good results. That's turning a 3 element steppir with 5.5 m long elements. Even that has a fair bit of movement in windy coditions.

Hello Charlie,

The 450 rotator is more than enough for your Sirio SY27-4 yagi, Sirio yagi's are one of the lightest on the market, so your rotator will cope with it easily.

As for your support bearing ? .... that was a good buy at that price , but they are not as hard to find as you might think... you can find these in most bearing companies, and at a cheaper price than radio outlets sell them for.

I run a PKW 4 ele. yagi that weighs 14kg, which is a lot heavier than your Sirio 4 ele yagi, I run it with a Yaesu G-450XL .

Here's a look at my PKW 4 ele. yagi.

And here are the sort of things that you will start to hear when you get your yagi up and running.... Good Luck Charlie

You can easily run your SY-4 on a TV Rotator, they are light as a feather.

A Yaesi G-450 will be more than enough, and you won't need the support bearing at all. The support bearing only really works with side-mount TV antenna rotators anyway, it won't line up with a direct mount rotator.

Also, I used a TV rotator for my first beam, and tried to use the same support bearing, and it was such a poorly made item the antenna/rotator would not turn with the bearing in place (and yes I did spend hours aligning it exactly).
The support bearing went loose/tight/loose/tight as it turned, because it was not machined to an exact tolerance, and the tight spot was too much for the rotator to move with the weight of the antenna too (this was a TV antenna rotator).

The G-450 had no problems turning a heavy duty 11m 3 element Yagi that I had up :)

Hey Roy!

I've spend the last two months trying to fashion a support bearing that will allow a mast turn within it, allowing the rotator to be mounted inbetween two wall mounted brackets T & K for instance

You are correct, the bearing suppliers are very helpful. However, the issue is that all the bearings are precision items - exactly 2 inch (imperial) or 50 mm metric for instance.
The alloy ./ steel poles certainly aren't precision and was measured at the bearing supplied on his micrometer at 4/1000th over 2 inch, or 50.8 mm
Of course, this will not go through a precision bearing
Same story with 1 1/2 inch pole.

I've left the poles with guy with for week to try and come up with a solution, and he hasn't got one, Other than buying very high quality pole that is less than 50mm in dia.

If you have any links or contacts for this kind of thing to assist, I would be grateful if you could point me in that direction.

Cheers
J
